Reletively fair account of Fox News's rise to the the top of the news world.
Of course Fox news isn't perfect, but just mention it's name and a liberals face turns beet red.

In December, Clear Channel Communications Inc., the No. 1 U.S. owner of radio stations, announced it would dump ABC News Radios newscasts in favor of Fox News Radio.LOL!

If you remove the Bush-bashing and America-is-so-guilty from most other news networks, you are left with...the news. Add to that some colorful personalities who aren't afraid to express opinions, and there you have it.

Good article - thanks for posting.
I would add, IMHO, that Fox's contention that it plays it down the middle on its news coverage and reserves opinion to the opinion shows, is something of a fable. Listen to the asides of virtually any of the hosts and reporters, and there is a significant conservative slant. That's fine with me, but to suggest FNC plays it straight down the middle is simply not so, IMHO. It is as slanted to the right as the MSM is to the left.

I had a large screen t.v. for 5 years until lightning nailed it. Over the years the FNC logo became burned into the bottom left hand corner. It was weird to see. No matter what channel we went to the FNC logo was always there, it was spooky.

Smith says that while some viewers may watch the network for conservative opinion not found elsewhere, Fox Newss detractors just dont understand the separation between opinion and news on the network Yes, the rest of liberal media prefers adherence to news tightly wrapped in their dogma. Opposing views have a nasty habit of disturbing the package.

Fox's conservative bias seems evident to the chattering class...but the bias at CNNNPRABCCBSNBC is nowhere to be seen or is dismissed with a sneer.

I don't even know what channels the "Big 3" networks are on anymore. I do skip over to MSNBC to watch (and laugh) at Hardball now and then, or over to CNN to oogle Rudi Bakhtiar... ;)

What's wrong with this picture, FNC, which is more or less aligned with the heartland (in MSM parlance, "conservative") is headquartered in New York City, America's Danzig Corridor, while CNN, which is spiritually aligned with the Khmer Rouge (in MSM parlance, "progressive") is in Hot-Lanta, in some ways quintessentially emblematic of the Old South?
It's as if in 1938 Deutche Welle broadcast from headquarters in Krakow and Polska National radio was headquartered in Berlin.

When my cable provider dropped the Fox News Channel from its basic service (while increasing rates!), I realized that Fox News was the only reason I even watch cable anymore. So, I switched to Dish Network, which offers Fox News at a lower rate than I was paying anyway.

Its a smash-mouth form of journalism thats very entertaining, says Matthew Felling..
And I suppose he thinks Dan Rather and CBS News are sober, fair minded, serious and professional journalists.

IMHO, Fox News and especially Shepard Smith are slightly left. The interesting thing for me is the followers on the DUmb sight complain that the MSM are neocon whores and go absolutely rabidly insane when Fox News is mentioned. They are currently complaining that Senator Diane Feinstein is a Republican and she and her husband are profiting from the illegal war on terror. They want her out of the Senate more than we do.
