I was actually sincere in my congratulations. I don't believe in curses. I'm not Dan Shaughnessy.
Certainly. But kick return coverage is KILLING the Rams.
Bulger throws up a punt. INTERCEPTION. Goodnight Rams.
Wrong city. The Niners had an incredible defense in their dynasty years. Their defense was led by Ronnie Lott and was one of the most feared in the league, that West Coast offense can't do a damn thing if they don't have a defense that can 3 and out the other team to get them back out on the field with good position. Go back and review the stats, I garauntee you'll find that the Niners defense was top 5 in the league in at least 2 of the 3 key defensive stats (rushing yards allowed, passing yards allowed, points allowed) every year they hoisted the Lombardi.
They had great offenses to be sure but they also had very good defenses as well. In fact a perfect example of the Patriots-Colts matchup is what happend when the 49ers beat the Dolphins in the Super Bowl. The 49ers and Dolphins both had great offenses going into that game. The 49ers won 38-16 because their defense was able to shut Marino down while the Dolphins defense couldn't stop Montana.
Thanks.
I know. Two good teams this morning. Too bad one of them had to leave and one of the guys playing tonight will get to go on.
Thats my point. Letting them get back with and have a 13 yard field as a result of the kick return non-coverage leaves a pretty short field for Vick to work with (although he didn't do much with it).
Now the dropsies and the intecepties and that great offense is off track. Thus the 1-dimensional team becomes a 0-dimensional team.
One block-in-the-back doesn't result in a 38-17 score, bud. And what about the other returns? The Falcons' special teams play has kicked the fleece off the Rams' butts.
Don't let Ronnie Lott hear you say that! ;O)
All the 49er's Super Bowl Champs had top 10 scoring defenses, and only one of their champs was out of the top 10 in defensive yardage. On defense, this year's Colts were 29th in yardage and 19th of scoring. I'm not saying they won't win it all, of course. But they're not like the Niners teams.
That is all.
Or maybe he should, then Ronnie would show him the finger with only two knuckles. Pure dedication.
Too bad the only place-kicker between them was wearing black and gold. I hope that guy doesn't go through what Scott Norwood went through.
Marino spent most of that game on his back.
17 St. Louis Rams
38 Atlanta Falcons
end 3rd Quarter
The accursed Ravens proved that a good defense with a mediocre offense can get to and win the SB.
Your example of Marino's Dolphins is a good one of why the converse cannot.
Walsh went to six defensive backs and it was game over.
17 St. Louis Rams
38 Atlanta Falcons

Turn out the liiiiiiiiiiights... the party's oooooverrrrr...
You obviously know more about the Pro game than me (I'm a college fan...GO DAWGS!)
You make a solid argument(and I love your conclusion...LOL).
