Yankee or Dixie? Take the Quiz
Yankee or Dixie ^
Posted on 01/14/2005 11:10:39 AM PST by Hillary's Lovely Legs
Yankee or Dixie? Check on your dialect and see if you might have crossed over to the "other side"! Simply click on the correct answer. As you go, the quiz will automatically interpret each answer to show you what your answer implies about you. When you are done, press Compute My Score. Your score will be calculated as a percentage: 0% is pure Yankee and 100% is pure Dixie.
- Do not change your answer during the test as it will ruin the score. You may do this after scoring is calculated to see the other answers.
- If you make a mistake, hit Clear below to restart the test!
- I regret that I do not have time to entertain discussions about this test or negotiate changes. It is provided strictly as-is and for entertainment purposes only.
- Be aware that television entertainment has a lot of northern dialect in it. This will have more of an influence on you than you expect.
- This test is based on results from the Harvard Computer Society Dialect Survey of 30788 respondents.

I am proud to report my score:
83% (Dixie). Did you have any Confederate ancestors?
As a matter of fact, yes I do.

42% barely Yankee, not bad considering I live 12 years in germany, 20 years in the midwest 5 years in the south and 10 in maine, and seven I can't account for.
Just shows I was not totally corrupted.

"71% (Dixie). That is a pretty strong Southern score!"
What'd ya expect? I get upset stomaches if I go further north than OKC.

60% Dixie (barely Dixie)
It fits me pretty well. I was born in Maine and lived there until I was 10, lived in TX for a couple of years and then moved to VA when I was 13 and I've been here since then.

In spite of bouncing from coast to coast in the Navy, and spending almost 2 decades in California, I still got 87% Dixie.

49% (Yankee -- barely into Yankee territory).
I was raised in upstate NY and have parents who grew up in Brooklyn, but have lived in North Florida for more than 15 years and married a woman who grew up in Atlanta and here.
No surprise I'm a linguistic mishmash.

No surprise....74% (Dixie). Should have been 100% seein' as how I was raised here in Texas.
The other 26% must be t.v.'s influence and possibly some from the excrutiating time I lived in California during the 90s.

57% (Dixie). Barely into the Dixie category.Considering I've only been in the south for 10 years (plus it seemed to nail my midwestern roots), I guess it's OK...

My great (no sure how many more 'greats' after that) granddad was born 1657 in North Carolina.
