ANNOUNCEMENT: The Free Republic Pre-Inaugural Dinner, Wed., Jan. 19 in D.C.
Thursday, January 13, 2005 | Kristinn

Posted on 01/13/2005 5:06:14 PM PST by kristinn

All Freepers and lurkers in good standing are invited to celebrate with us at the Free Republic Pre-Inaugural Dinner at the Washington Plaza Hotel, Wednesday, January 19, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

With all the traffic closures expected the next day, we figured it would be best to give folks a dry run on getting to the hotel for the ball the next night. Also, because so many of the ball attendees will be spending all day in town on Inauguration Day, we have decided to give them the chance to pre-position their evening attire at the hotel the night before so they won't have to make an extra trip on Thursday.

The dinner will be a great chance to catch up with old friends and make new ones.

You do not have to be attending the ball to come to this dinner. Also, if you do not want to have dinner, you are welcome to hang out in the hotel lounge and buy a drink or soda and socialize there.

The price for the dinner is $25 per person, tax, gratuity and drinks extra.

The prix fixe menu is:

Mixed Field Green Salad with Tomato, Carrot, Cucumber and Bell Pepper
Balsamic Vinaigrette and Buttermilk Ranch Traditional Caesar Salad with Garlic Croutons and Parmesan Reggiano, Signature Caesar Dressing
Teriyaki Beef and Asparagus Salad with Napa Cabbage and Sugar Peas
Assorted Dinner Rolls with Whipped Butter

Pecan Crusted Chicken Breast with a Caramelized Onion Demi Glace
Pan-Roasted Atlantic Salmon with a Dill Beurre Blanc
Roasted Garlic and Chive Mashed Potatoes
Sautéed Green Beans with Baby Carrots

Caramel Apple Crisp
German Chocolate Cake

We are ending the dinner at 10 p.m. so everyone can get a good night's sleep for the long day ahead.

Please note: We will also be making the final plans for the ball at the dinner.

And, the D.C. Chapter will be finalizing our plans for the American Sectors along the Inaugural Parade route.

The Washington Plaza Hotel
10 Thomas Circle, NW
Washington, D.C. 20005

Located at 14th Street and Massachusetts Avenue, NW. Garage parking (6 foot clearance) and limited street parking available.

The hotel is four blocks north of the McPherson Square Metro station (Orange and Blue lines.)

Please RSVP on this thread or by freepmail to me.

What a great idea... please count the two of us in! :-)

To: kristinn; All

bumping like a mad man out here in asia...

any thoughts on hanging out after the Inauguration ?

my friends and I are staying on in town for the March for Life on Monday, Jan. 24th.

the Rock for Life youngsters will be out in force taking their pro life message to the streets and applying some grassroots activism to the enablers within our government (protesting: engaged in gentle forms of civil disobedience)

Judy Brown of the American Life League will be in town, as well as Phyllis Schafly, 2 stalwarts leading a just cause-

any thoughts on touring the White House ? 10 people or more are needed to constitute a 'w. h. tour group'

attending a senate or house session together ? (en masse)

lobbying a favored or loathed congress critter ?

what say yee ?

Question: WMAL Radio in D.C. is advertising the Ball; tickets for sale etc............or am I just having an opium dream?

It would be great if yall could get some of the WMAL on-air talent to show up for it, or for this dinner.

Michael Graham might be interested. He attended one of the Patriot Rallies last March or so.

I spoke briefly with Mr. Graham yesterday morning while taking a quick tour of WMAL. He's invited to the ball.

I'm going to meet with the hotel staff this afternoon. They told me it's possible to do that, so I'll make the arrangements today.

Put me down for one dinner. (And a lot of Dr Pepper, LOL.)

Will we pay the hotel directly for our dinners, or are you guys coordinating and collecting THAT, too? I am in AWE of all the fabulous work by the DC Chapter to organize these events, and all the tips on getting around that make SUCH a difference for us out-of-towners.

It was reading the threads of all y'alls' brilliant advance work on the first FR Ball in 2001 that finally gave me the confidence to just get on a plane and go to DC for the first GWB Inauguration. And it was one of the most wonderful experiences I've had (and I've had the good fortune to do some really cool stuff)!!

FReepers are the very best, and the DC Chapter is the best of the best. Again, a HUGH thanks for all you folks do.

I can only hope the DC Chapter will feed me at least half as well whenever I can find my way up there...[g]

You're very kind. Alot of people besides the D.C. Chapter have worked hard to make this ball a success.

Everyone gets to pay for their own dinner Wednesday. That's one headache I don't have to take on next week :-)
