However, he could just be shielding his eyes from wind, sun, or something. That form is so godawul I HOPE he's not trying to salute...

I think it's real. Kerry's bomber jacket's zipper is on the correct side. His shirt is buttoned with the holes on the correct side. The military guy has US Air Force correctly on his uniform. The only thing that's screwed up is the salute.... which means that it must be John Kerry.

The shirt buttons and jacket zipper are on the correct side...so unless they redid the hand, its not reversed.
Looking at the prop blades...they look correct. The pitch on the blades would indicate the proper rotation is counter clockwise...which is correct. I have a photo of a C130 prop that I took years ago for a friend who actually works on the team that makes them at Hamilton-Standard and it looks the same.

To those suggesting the photo is flipped - if you'll take a look at the bottom of the jacket you'll see the zipper is in the correct position. I spotted this looking for a way to prove or disprove the flipped photo suggestion.
A "possible" explanation is that he injured his right amr or shoulder, but with kerry, there is no way to tell why he'd do something like that. he might just be showing his real contempt for the military.

It's the new revised easier leftist liberal salute used so that they can recognize each other. It recently replaced the more complicated forehead slap followed with the thumb-on-nose four-fingered wiggle while speaking the code words, "Nyuk, nyuk, nyuk".
