Odd Couple Gibson, Moore Exchange Praise
PASADENA, Calif. - Mel Gibson and Michael Moore have been used as shorthand for cultural and political divisions among Americans, but how do the filmmakers feel about each other? Cue the Hollywood ending it's hugs all around.
"I saw the film. I liked it," Gibson told AP Radio Sunday at the 31st Annual People's Choice Awards, countering the contention that "Fahrenheit 9/11" fans and "The Passion of the Christ" enthusiasts are mutually exclusive groups.
Moore's critique of President Bush's policies since the Sept. 11 attacks and Gibson's film about Jesus Christ's final hours were huge hits at the box office in 2004, and both won People's Choice awards Sunday. "Fahrenheit 9/11" was named favorite movie and "The Passion of the Christ" was the favorite drama.
"I feel a kind of strange kinship with Michael," Gibson said. I mean, they're trying to pit us against each other in the press, but this is all just a hologram, you know. They've really got nothing to do with one another. They were used as some kind of divisive left-right thing."
Moore said he saw Gibson's film twice, and even took his father to see it.
"I thought it was a powerful piece of filmmaking," Moore told AP Radio Sunday. "I'm a practicing Catholic, and you know I think Mel and I may be from different wings of the Catholic Church. My film might have been called 'The Compassion of the Christ.'"
Here's your proof...
I dont know...
it could be graciousness, or it could be that Mel just doesn't care....who knows....
they might even be friends maybe....
Only after a night of REALLY hard drinking.
We know who the father of lies is, maybe Mickey is the nephew or something.
Mel's father harbors all sort of fringe conspiracy theories about U.S. foriegn policy so I'm not surprised he liked Moore's film.
I'm betting he was just being gracious. Hell, W. praised Kerry after the election. This is much ado about nothing.
"I saw the film. I liked it," Gibson told AP Radio Sunday
Of course, this could mean he's a science fiction fan. He was in 'Signs' after all.
Practicing what?
And Jesus probably would be running an abortion clinic in the film.
As for Gibson's remarks, someone should tell him how moore said that the terrorist islamofascist scum are akin to the Patriots who founded the greatest country on Earth.
Yet another one to cross of my watch list. At this rate, only Jimmy Stewart & John Wayne movies will be left to watch.
Hey, don't lump Fahrenheit in with 'Signs.' Signs is based on facts.
I don't think so. The remarks I read slamming the Iraq war makes me even wonder if his Christianity is real. Anyone who would stand by while Saddam filled yet more mass graves with tortured victims doesn't seem like much of a Christian to me.
That's disturbing news.
It sounds to me like Mel was just being gracious towards Michael. Michael's the one that said he saw Mel's film twice, and that he "even took his dad to see it," not the other way around (as another Freeper on this thread implied). I think a mountain's being made out of nothing here, people. Mel's a good guy.
"I saw the film. I liked it,"...
Mmmmmmmm, just lost a lot of respect for MG.
Sort of like Orin Hatch's best friend, being Ted Kennedy.<(¿)>
Moore took HIS father to see The Passion!!!!!!!!
Did anyone ever see Mel's movie "Conspiracy Theory?". Mel is into conspiracies, it was handed down to him from his father. I can see how he might like F911 in a way. I am sure alot of this was just Mel being gracious, and appreciative of how another independent film maker has bucked the odds and succeded.
Is Mel drinking again?
Gibson is playing the proverbial two step. Pandering to the fag lefties in Hollywood but at the same time lining up his chickens to roost. He wants to run a studio!! You do not do that by alienating fagland!!
Hell if it wasn't for fatty Moore would the right not have been galvanized to defeat Kerry? Who knows maybe Fatty is a double agent!! passing himself off as a bleeding heart liberal but deep deep down inside, he is a crafty neocon in league with Cheny and Wolfy!!!
LOL
