Tourists venturing atop the Empire State Building have been disturbed to see horrible images of Sept. 11 greeting them in the gift shop. Two 9/11 tribute booklets adorn the top of the display stand, where news magazines and entertainment periodicals are stocked.
The color pictures on the covers of the booklets show the Twin Towers engulfed in flames. There are terrified people running from the scene, and one shot actually captures the second plane plowing into the South Tower.
"It's disturbing," said Alma Sanguinetti, 70, who was visiting from San Francisco.

It should be disturbing and we should all be reminded.
Yeah, but maybe the top of the Empire State Building isn't a good place.
IT'S JIHAD! WAKE UP!
Reality can be disturbing sometimes....
Although maybe putting those items on the ground floor instead of the top floor would be more appropriate.
Or, maybe these people should just avoid going to skyscrapers in NYC.....
Keeps the tourists more alert.
"It's depressing"
"ooo...pretty snowglobes"
There's something a little too 1984/Brave New World-ish about this that is totally disturbing. Sort of a collective mind-numb going on.
"They" are succeeding in making 9-11 just a distant disconnected memory which in years to come might never have even happened.
Thats what's even more depressing and disturbing.
NEW YORK- Lost amid the hoopla surrounding the celebrations of the end of World War II has been the 50th anniversary of the army plane crash into the Empire State Building. Many do not know of the tragic incident of July 28, 1945 -- the day a B-25 bomber, lost in fog, rammed into what was then the world's tallest building....

If I had my way, those images would be on every TV screen every day. How soon we forget!
So is that Sodom pit of a city you live in.
As for 9/11, people tend to forget what they cannot process. IMHO, every vote for Kerry was a person in denial.
I've been atop the Empire State Building since 9-11. For me, it was cathartic to stand there, looking south, imagining that airplane speeding past on my right headed for Tower One. We must never forget.
As far as I'm concerned, they can sell all the pictures they want to.
Thanks for the info!
FReepers, we need to encourage management to KEEP DISPLAYING such *important* memorabilia--please take a moment to contact them in support of selling the 9/11 souvenirs....the link below takes you to the Management page for exec. names including the Public Relations contact.

I tried to locate an actual online Empire State Building gift store, there does not seem to be an online store (there ARE third-party merchants selling stuff). If someone finds a phone number or Website to actually order these, please post....
This is really a shame. If they had just placed a few more shiny bobbles around, perhaps some tinsel, they could have distracted these poor souls.
Never forget!
I sure am with you on this one, Quilla.
Too many people have completely forgotten. How sad is that?
