WASHINGTON (Talon News) -- Congressman Tom Tancredo (R-CO) issued a statement on Tuesday contrasting the government's zeal in preventing parrots from Mexico from illegally entering the country with their efforts to stop illegal immigration in general.
Under the headline "Apparently There Are No Jobs Available That American Parrots Won't Do," Tancredo said he was surprised to learn of the "incredible success that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers enjoyed in apprehending smugglers attempting to illegally smuggle 150 Lilac Crowned and Mexican Redhead Amazon Parrots into the United States."
The statement points out that ICE, however, has not had the same luck in preventing an estimated 3 million illegal alien human beings from swarming into the U.S. annually unchecked.
"It's nice to see that ICE has their priorities in order," quipped Tancredo, head of the Congressional Immigration Reform Caucus. "Now that we appear able to successfully identify and apprehend parrots attempting to enter the U.S. illegally, perhaps doing the same with people is just around the corner."
In addressing illegal immigration questions at Wednesday's press conference, President Bush said that America wants border patrol agents "chasing crooks and thieves and drug runners and terrorists, not good-hearted people who are coming here to work."
"And therefore, it makes sense to allow the good-hearted people who are coming here to do jobs that Americans won't do a legal way to do so," Bush added in reference to his guest worker plan. "And providing that legal avenue, it takes the pressure off the border."
The president said that the border should be "modern" and that border patrol should be upgraded.
"Now, one of the important aspects of my vision is that this is not automatic citizenship," Bush explained. "The American people must understand that. That if somebody who is here working wants to be a citizen, they can get in line like those who have been here legally and have been working to become a citizen in a legal manner."
Tancredo, who supports some form of guest worker program but who has been a vocal critic of the administration's efforts to increase border security and stop illegal immigration, noted in his press release that an international environmental organization called WildAid congratulated the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and ICE for "foiling the diabolical plot of the sinister bird-smugglers in San Diego earlier this year, and 'deporting' the parrots to Mexican wildlife authorities."
"Better yet," added Tancredo, "Perhaps we should explore the possibility of moving the Fish and Wildlife Service from the Interior Department over into Homeland Security."

That's one way to spin it, I guess...
Also, given that 14 million Americans cannot find a full-time job, we should avoid amnesties, guest worker programs, etc., and truly start deporting the illegals so that we can protect American workers' wages and have a lower American unemployment rate.
Fun with illegal immigration PING!
I feel so much safer now that those parrot smugglers are behind bars.......
I am saddened, although not surprised, that money has trumped national security and sovereignty.
LOL! God bless you, Tom. Give 'em h*ll!
Tolerance, thanks for posting this! It was great! :)
No Norwegian Blues? Lovely plumage...
That's total BS and you know it.
Is there a "Conservative Parrot" ping list? I know my wife would love to be on it. See, she's got this thing for birds, and for years she's bugged me for a parrot. I've tried to explain to her that the Jack russells and the Manx cats like parrots, too. This approach has done little disuade her. But I figure if I keep her occupied with reading about parrots, she won't have time to bug me for one.
Merry Christmas everyone!
Or, as glen Beck would say, " Happy Ramahanakwanzmas!"
It's not a silly as it sounds. While I agree the borders need to be protected from illegal humans (pleasse don't send them here), there are many danges posed by animals. Ever heard of Bird Flu, Congressman? How about West Nile Virus? Leptospirosis? All carried and transmitted by birds.

Get her a Moluccan cockatoo....
Both the cat and dog will be very polite to the bird ;)
You're welcome. :-)
Prove it. If you have a more accurate number, please share it with us.
Merry Christmas to you, too.
It is not BS, as there are still many unemployed and under employed.
The real BS is the governments claim that there are jobs that Americans wont do. That is a lie. If you paid me what I get paid as an engineer but to do something else instead, there is not a job I wouldnt do that is legal and moral.
But with all the illegal immigration there are fewer and fewer jobs that pay on a scale that Americans can survive on in the American economy.
The meat packing industry used to employ all American employees. But since the illegals took it over, the pay sclaes are far lower than they used to be.
We also have fewer Americans who can afford medical insurance and so have to become a burden on the county hospitals, in addition to the underpaid illegal laborers, and so the county hospital systems along the obrder are in horrid financial condition.
The only ones who benefit from illegal labor are the employers who exploit the illegals, send Americans into poverty, destitute our tax base, bankrupt our civil services and rape our national security.
TANCREDO FOR PRESIDENT ! ! !
YEEEEEHHHHAAAAAAWWWW ! ! ! ! !
Heheheh.
No, the Norwegian blues were merely sleeping.
Since when do those jobs all equal the same pay? That's where the line begins for JOBS AMERICANS WON'T DO - in fact, I hear AMERICANS all the time who are already employed and when you ask them for assistance, they claim they are paid enough to do that too.
There are many AMERICANS who REFUSE to do work. I have seen it with my own eyes. I don't see AMERICANS lining up every morning bright and early to go do housework or yardwork or even temporary labor. All i ever hear is, "I have to make X dollars or I'm not lifting a finger. I'll live off the Government (meaning people who work and pay taxes).
This would be a funny article if it weren't so true and scary and maddening.
Are NOT paid enought to do that too.
You are correct. All jobs don't pay the same. But there are NO jobs that Americans won't do for the right price.
That right price is determined by the market, but when the market is bypassed by illegal laborers willing to undercut what the market demands....well then you have legal immigrants and citizens being displaced by illegal aliens.
