ITHACA, N.Y. A nationwide poll finds nearly half of all Americans believe the U-S government should restrict the civil liberties of Muslim Americans.
The survey -- conducted this fall by Cornell University -- found that 44 percent favored at least some restrictions, while 48 percent said civil liberties shouldn't be restricted in any way.
Twenty-seven percent of the 715 respondents supported requiring all Muslim-Americans to register where they lived -- and 29 percent thought agents should infiltrate Muslim civic and volunteer groups.
The poll also found Republicans and people who described themselves as highly religious were more likely to support curtailing Muslims' civil liberties than Democrats or people who are less religious.
The executive director of the Muslim American Society says the news is disturbing, but not surprising.
"Many American Muslims are middle-class professionals who have a good life here and would not risk all they have achieved for this murderer Bin Laden."
That sort of caught my eye, too. And after 20 years in the country one day they suddenly up and go to Bosnia or Afghanistan to fight the infidel and leave their families behind who are interviewed on TV and say 'but he wouldn't hurt a fly, he is such a peaceful, loving family man...'
Many have not returned. (Goody goody) but the Australian government is now taking care of the families 'cos muslim women don't/can't/won't go to work.

Yes, they are funny that way. In other countries they insist on using their own customs instead of that countries civil law. In others, they blow up something to get a governmental action or custom changed. In America they don't feel that strong.
Muslims don't assimilate. Closest they come is "go along to get along". That ain't sufficient when push comes to squeeze.
Your contempt is misplaced, and it is apparently you who are ignorant of history: a common enough failing in America where even the history of Orthodox Church is little known, and the separated churches of the East, the Monophysites and the Nestorians are remembered if at all only as vague names of obscure doctrinal tendancies.
Yes the Mongols are now overwhelmingly Buddhist, but the post you were replying to was a review of history. A fair portion of the Mongols in the time of Genghis Khan and his immediate successors were Nestorian Christians (converted by missionaries from what is now Iraq). Although Kublai Khan was himself a Buddhist, one of his wives was a Christian, and he sent a Christian monk to Europe in an unsuccessful attempt to secure an alliance against the Muslims.
China had thriving Nestorian monasteries for centuries until, I forget which Emperor launched a persecution which forced conversion to Buddhism.
The govt has already restricted the rights of the Mormons. Confiscated church property and arrested a lot of polygamists, and sent an army to keep an eye on them. Merely on the word of a few drunken lechers that weren't very religious themselves, but hated the Mormon's religion.
The Mormons actually serve as a good precedent for doing something similar to the Muslims.
And why not? The govt never apologized nor paid any reparations to the Mormon polygamists or their descendants, so that is a tacit admission the actions against the Mormons were "legal". Surely we can say all Muslims are murdering terrorists just as we said all Mormons were polygamists (even though they weren't).
If the clerics in the mosques in the US are preaching the same anti-kuffar sermons as they are in Australia, the muslims will withdraw more and more. They are being told that it's dangerous to islam for their children to mix with ours in school, that watching cartoons on TV for example, is idol worship. That islam becomes polluted through contact with us. They are terrified. In Australia, the children are expected to sit next to the opposite sex in grade school! Boys and girls aren't supposed to mix - it isn't 'clean'...the muslim children are coming home asking for Christmas presents and Easter Eggs! (Holding hands with boy/girlfreinds!) This is the first time in their history that muslims have ever been expected to live in the West...as equals...our culture is undermining theirs at every turn. Their young girls want to know why they can't swim in a public pool wearing a swimsuit like everyone else. (With boys yet!)
The clerics are besides themselves with worry. The only hope they have of keeping the muslims 'pure' (and stupid) is to terrify them and keep them apart from us. The pressure is on. Clerics/imams losing control, preaching allah will punish...get the picture?
If they didn't do these things, I'd no, they can't, under the implicit logic used to place restriction on any group.

I, and a lot of other Americans, had problems with the government's handling of the Branch Davidians. But a majority supported the government's actions.

This reminds me of a poll taken years ago that asked people what they thought of
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
Large numbers said it was way to radical.

Most have (95%) of Muslims condone 911 and continued "holy warrior" attacks on the USA, Israel, and any nation that does not "submit" to their made-up BS religion.
When there are rabid rats out in the barn you do not leave their little ones to grow to chew thru your home's floors and walls to eat you little baby's fingers and toes and soon Momma Rat and Daddy Rat come to eat baby's face and body.

This is an old article. I figure those numbers have probably doubled.
Are they going to take care of this themselves after they are done paying for the Texas law passed that granted illegal aliens in-state tuitions fees?
