Last year, school officials told 9-year-old Jonathan Morgan he couldn't give classmates Christian-themed candy canes at his elementary school's "winter break" party.

On Thursday, a federal judge told him he can.

U.S. District Judge Paul Brown in Sherman ordered the 52,000-student Plano school district to let students distribute "religious viewpoint gifts" at school parties scheduled for Friday.

Here in North Central Texas I judged an art contest for an elementary school. The theme was "A different kind of hero." Most of the kids drew teachers, military relatives, firemen, astronauts and grandparents. One did Jesus on the Cross. I remarked to the teacher how lucky it was that there was evidently no policy against the drawing of a religious image for a project. She said "Not in the south." My niece is also a teacher here and she said she would never restrain such an activity because it was against the law.

So I just don't understand what is going on in other places. I would like to believe that these lawsuits you hear about are the combination of a prejudiced teacher, principle and judge. When you are unlucky enough to get all three in combination your freedom of expression goes out the window.

"Yes, arguing about religious dogma with people of other faiths is a really great way for grade schoolers to make friends with one another. "

So what if they argue about religion. That's reality. It's a freedom of speech issue.

"Do you want the schools to teach about Allah? "

I don't want them to teach kids to believe in Allah or to believe in any religion. But there are billions of people who are Muslims, Christans, Buddihsts, and it would certainly be educational to teach kids they exist and what they believe, who founded those faiths and their place in history. That's not the same as telling the kids to follow that particular faith. It's hard to believe that common sense on this subject is so lacking in teachers, school boards and judges.

I agree with you. I asked the question, "Do you want them to teach about Allah?" as a rhetorical question aimed at Christians who "want God back in the schools", but the Christian God and as inclusive similar to a praochial school. I think that "teaching' about all faiths in an educational, historical manner is a good idea and would hope that is part of the history area.

To be fair...I do not have a very open and tolerant attitude about Islam these days....that is a bias I admit to.

What on earth does a screen name have to do with the subject?

Why on earth would a person with a screen name like yours even bring up the off topic subject?

ACCORDING TO HISTORY Protagoras drowned as an athiest who really gives a crap what either one did they were and are both legends in their own minds !

I hope you didn't actually pay for the "education" which led you to scribble this unintelligible sentence. And since you can't spell, at least you should learn to use the spell checker, which is included in the posting software for this site.

How old are you?

All of the black Americans I know celebrate (horrors, ACLU cover your ears) Christmas.

That's because all are Christians.

No wonder the Democrat Party can't figure out why blacks are starting to ask questions and slowly leave.

This sounds like a good idea until a Muslim parent sends his kindergartener in with chocolates wrapped in labels that say "There is no God but Allah, and Mohammad is his prophet." Then they can complain that the other parents don't respect the five-year-old's wish to share his faith with his friends.

"There is no God but Gaia, and Shirley MacLaine is her prophet." is the true statement. Those arabs mess everything up.

And "Dr" Karenga is also a made up name. He changed it so people wouldn't know who he really is and look into his criminal past. He is a convicted, sexual deviant, woman torturer.=

Not once did i say i admired or admonished this man for what he had done or even for changing his name to hide but you presumed that by putting a bit of information about how kwanza was started that i accepted the whole thing which i DO NOT

37 posted on Yea heres a great thinker ! HA ! =

Here again i tried to defuse what a name is

38 posted on
ACCORDING TO COURT DOCUMENTS, Karenga's real name is Ron N. Everett. In the '60s, he awarded himself the title "maulana," Swahili for "master teacher." =

Once again you pointed out what i had already knew

So now attack a screen name because you showed yourself to be a dupe.= Factuality is not an attack ! =

History showed what Protagoras was ! and how he died !

= Heres the part where your screen name gives you some reign of great importance im not sure how that works but to each his own .

Kinda like, the one you swallowed hook, line and sinker,,,and the real one about the criminal Ron Everett.

I tried to explain how i felt about both of them as being something great in their own minds You took it as a personal attack you may be educated but how much common sense in your formal education did you sacrafice for some scraps of paper !

Why on earth would a person with a screen name like yours even bring up the off topic subject? =

I was on subject the whole time and my screen name is a song title by Van Halen I may be simple in mind but i dont have to overthink a subject to understand it !

Have a nice life .
