AESTHETICS OF HATE: R.I.P. DIMEBAG ABBOTT, AND GOOD RIDDANCE -- Time For Conservative Imagination!
ICONOCLAST ^ | by William Grim

Part of the hard work of civilization is teaching young to be able to distinguish between the good and the bad in all aspects of life. If we teach our young children to obey the 10 Commandments and to obey the laws of the land, but don't teach them to realize that Johann Sebastian Bach is superior to Dimebag Abbott, we have failed as parents and mentors. If a person has gone through 12 or 13 years of education and has not developed an appreciation for the greatest artistic achievements of mankind, that education has been an utter failure.

While laissez-faire is the correct approach to economics it has no place in the realm of aesthetics or morality. A confidant civilization imposes its morality and aesthetics on it young people. Yes, you heard it right. We impose. The Rousseauian noble savage is a myth. Left unchecked and untutored the savage will never attain nobility......

Modern popular culture is sick.

Yup, and since it is, we should joyously celebrate Death, refer to people as "semi-human, simian in nature" (which opens up a whole can of worms that REALLY frightens me, and should frighten ANY conservative) and be hateful just to show that sick modern culture that we are better than they are...

I'm in. Anyone else? Woo!

"No way was Skid Row better than Pantera..."

LOL - I was thinking the same thing!

Having seen Skid Row live, I can tell you that Sebastian Bach is/was an awesome lead singer!

"If you're living in the gutter, everything above is "elitist", isn't it though?!"

Being an 'elitist' means believing yours is the only opinion of importance when it comes to art or music. Since art and music is subjective, and literally all art and music is valid and worthwhile ,even if the only person who enjoys that music or art is the person who created it, 'elitists' are easy to spot.

Contrary to your assumption, when it comes to art and music 'elitists' are in fact below the gutter. Everyone looks down on them.

That's too bad for him--rejecting the American spirit that was his birthright. But, I suppose he has a right to do that, too.

Chris, I have no trouble with you taste in music, food, drink, drugs, women, men, politics or anything else.

I was merely pointing out the irony of your stating that somebody does themselves a serious disservice by judging others

and then, two sentences later using the tasty little ad hominemm hypocritical weekly churchgoers who act all holy during church but S%^& on people the rest of the week.

Maybe I should have added:

to avoid confusion.

C'mon, man. Do you honestly not see anything redeeming or humorous in that article?

The use of language was hysterical. The guy is like a character out of a Whit Stilman movie. Hilarious. I loved it.

"..and I in no way want to engage in a blaming the victim scenario,.."

"..it would be wrong to ignore Mr. Abbott's complicity in contributing to the soul-deadening culture of death, ugliness, depravity and inhumanity that spawned his killer."

What a lying, two-tongued bastard. He promises not to 'blame the victim' then does just that!

True enough. My top 10 favorite metal guitarists, in order:

I'll critique and add/replace mine here...but you have a REAL good starting list...

1. Yngwie Malmsteen
He's REALLY good, but not #1.

2. George Lynch
perfect placement

3. The Nuge
Again...awesome, but further down the list

4. Randy Rhoads
perfect placement

5. John Petrucci
Again, perfect!

6. Kirk Hammett before he became a wuss
Hammett WAS good...but I prefer his mentors...

7. Dimebag Darrell RIP
Dimebag (R.I.P.) was good..."Planet Caravan" was AWESOME...but not in my top 10.

8. Warren DeMartini
He should be higher

9. Edward Van Halen
Again...higher

10.Adrian Smith
Nice choice, but not top 10...although Iron Maiden IS one of my all-time fav's.

My list:

1) Chris DeGarmo...Operation: MindCrime and Empire are a tour de force in playing!
2) George Lynch
3) Warren DeMartini
4) Randy Rhodes
5) John Petrucci
6) Jake E. Lee
7) Edward Van Halen
8) Steve Vai
9) Yngwie J. Malmsteen
10) Ted Nugent

Well, also you have to remember he probably has a lot of bitterness over the fact that almost nobody has written any "classical" style music that any sane human being would want to listen to since Copland.....a lot of unlistenable 12-tone Academic crap.

A lot of that is because most truly creative or skilled types are avoiding or leaving the classical paradigm.

I'm about 99.999% certain if we built a time machine and went back and kidnapped Mozart or Stravinsky when they were 16 years old and brought them to today, they'd both almost immediately abandon classical music and start a rock band. Bach? I'm not sure....

Your post is almost as mean and revolting as the author of this article.

you say; "As far as role models go, Scumbag ain't it!"

Perhaps, but he is far better than you.

It's always too tough to name a top 10 of any musicians, guitarists especially as there are so many good ones.

there is a difference between the Mona Lisa and a Lucite encased turd

Dammit!

I knew I should have bought the old master instead of the lucite encased turd at last week's auction!

What a pampas ass. I think Dime must have stolen this guy's girlfriend at a Pantera concert and this guy is out for revenge.

No, not really. I'm not even a fan of Pantera/Damageplan. Just go check out the sheet music sometime and see what you think.

You *do* read music, right?

It's funny, but in a pthetic way - What actually scares me is how serious the author is - it's kind of funny, kinda scary, at the same time. Sorta like Michael Moore's films.
