AESTHETICS OF HATE: R.I.P. DIMEBAG ABBOTT, AND GOOD RIDDANCE
-- Time For Conservative Imagination!

Part of the hard work of civilization is teaching young to be able to distinguish between the good and the bad in all aspects of life. If we teach our young children to obey the 10 Commandments and to obey the laws of the land, but don't teach them to realize that Johann Sebastian Bach is superior to Dimebag Abbott, we have failed as parents and mentors. If a person has gone through 12 or 13 years of education and has not developed an appreciation for the greatest artistic achievements of mankind, that education has been an utter failure.
While laissez-faire is the correct approach to economics it has no place in the realm of aesthetics or morality. A confidant civilization imposes its morality and aesthetics on it young people. Yes, you heard it right. We impose. The Rousseauian noble savage is a myth. Left unchecked and untutored the savage will never attain nobility......

Ok, I'm passing the hateful abjectly ignorant baton to you now. I gotta get back to work.
To: Chad Fairbanks
We should all strive to make sure our children grow up to be like you. I have no children of my own, but my 6 year old nephew would get his mouth washed out with soap tuit suite in my house if he were caught speaking the word "scumbag" in front of an adult.
Its a pity that there's no way to feed a little Irish Spring to posters such as the one you replied to.

"But, I don't tend to frequent movies and other forms of entertainment that perpetuate those hateful stereotypes."
First of all, what is hateful about bible thumping preachers? Second, there is no stereotype that exists without some truth to it. It doesn't take movies to perpetuate them.
All you have to do is go to the next revival meeting that comes to town. You will see plenty of bible thumpers there proudly thumping their bibles.

The word "scumbag" is thrown around usually by those who don't have a clue what it means. I may use it occasionally, as an adult, but I am at least fully aware of what it means. ;0)
You're right, though. The Newbie needs his mouth washed out with soap.

Must be DU visitors day at FRSo, what used to be your screen name here? Or are you another relative newbie who thinks they should decide that longtime FReepers are DUers?
(And I got a news flash for you poor poor heavy metal babies: As far as role models go, Scumbag ain't it!)
Some of us admired Abbott' s skill as a guitarist. That doesn't make him a hero. If you want to see sad hero worship, go to some of the "Bush makes me so wet" threads.

Wish I could say I had the same luck converting others in my family. Although my sister is showing lots of potential. Now if I could just get her to register to vote.....

There really was a thread a few months ago titled, "Cheney is so hot!". So much for deep political thought, eh?

The word "scumbag" is thrown around usually by those who don't have a clue what it means. True. They come in individual units, 3-packs, and "Weekend Packs" of a dozen. They are sized (in descending order) "Massively Deformed", "Extra Large", "Large", "Medium", and "Democrat Voter".

The 12-packs are for a weekend? Oh, man, now I feel silly. I thought they made those to coincide with the calender months. Dang, am I old.

"Not to typecast, but some Euros do feel a sense of cultural superiority to Americans. And to everything else that isn't Euro."
yeah, but then all you have to do is turn on the radio and listen to their music. Techno pop is practically indistinguishable from disco, and Europe is chock full of discotheques. ick, thats something Americans can definitely look down our noses at Europeans for.

Dimebag was certainly one of the best metal guitarists of modern times. = "This turd isn't quite as smelly as the others."

I did not say all or most. I said many. And yes, many conservatives, and people in general, think anything different from what makes them personally feel uncomfortable is immoral or wrong. It is just flat out stupid and narrow minded.
Does the fact that I enjoy Slayer's music make me immoral????
I even read that Dimebag was not a drug user and got that name off of a goof.
My dad is very conservative and thinks the music I listen to is basically heretical. I like what I like, and it harms no one. So people who don't like it, although entitled to their opinion, should just butt out and leave everyone else alone.

Here's something that may or may not be interesting:
Highly artistic people come from all over the world to this little town to participate in a fairly high cultural level of art happenings. Sometimes we get a compliment like this one from a highly cultured, cosmopolitan Euro--'I have been regularly attending community events such as this everywhere, and you are as good as any.' That was about a community chamber orchestra, but we have some decent local rock bands, bluegrass, blues, jazz, and various ethnic style bands, too.
The point, I guess, is that not all Euros are so provincial as the author of the article.

What's worse is that this guy was born an American - then ended up in Europe. So, he is probably so provincial because of his guilt for being born an American. It's the only way he can salve the wounds he feels about not being a Real European...

Sounds like a good article from the first few paragraphs that I read.
Modern popular culture is sick.

if you don't have anything good to say, don't say anything at all. Yeah.
And if people have nothing good to sing, they shouldn't sing it, either.
