Two brothers were determined to stop someone from breaking into their grandfather's Washington County home for the third time in less than a week, so they armed themselves with rifles and camped out, police said.
Sure enough, Brian and Bob Reihner came face-to-face with an armed man breaking into their grandfather's North Franklin Township home early yesterday, township police Chief Mark Kavakich said.
The confrontation ended with the arrest of Steven A. Wallace, 19, of Washington, police said.
"This is how kids should take care of their grandparents," Kavakich said. "They stepped up and may have saved their grandfather's life."
The Reihners decided to stay with their grandfather, Daniel Denman, after two men confronted Denman in his home over the weekend and someone again robbed the house on Tuesday. The people stole cash, a compact disc player and rolls of quarters.

Better for them if they had shot his sorry ass.
Everyone should know that thieves often hit twice or three times. After the first theft they know you'll buy brand new stuff they can steal so they hit you again. My dad sold insurance and saw this happen quite often.
Amazing restraint! While they had him covered with rifles, the perp pulled a handgun on them. I'm astounded that he survived; in these parts, he wouldn't have...
Indeed good for them. I would recommend a shotgun rather than a rifle for this type of thing next time. Glad they had the b@lls to protect their family and glad they got out OK. .12 gauge pump or semi-auto (minus the capacity limiter required for hunting weapons) with double ought buckshot would do the trick.
I sure hope those rifles didn't look militaristic. Tsk, Tsk.
After decades of training with kendo sticks and training in weapons forms with my katana, I have often wondered how this would work on someone who deserves it. The would have been a perfect opportunity to see.
It is too bad that the criminals prefer to prey on unarmed, defenseless people... otherwise, you'd certainly get your chance.
That or an HK MP-5, a STEN, or a Thompson M1. :-)
Thanks. This good info to know.
He was inside the house, pulled a gun and they didn't give him multiple hot lead injections? !!!
Don't know the law thereabouts, but I've always thought that situation would be automatic grounds for opening up on the perp.
Besides, it would save them time spent testifying, the money wasted on a trial, the money wasted incarcerating the SOB, and the chance that he'd ever commit any more crimes, armed or otherwise.
I also thought it was cool they "camped out". Does that mean outside, or on the couch like we do at Mom's over the Christmas holidays?
This story needs more details.
Were they wearing their insulated camo overalls or did they have Ghillie Suits on?
Did they have night vision scopes?
Were they in an Armed Intruder Blind?
Were they wearing their "Human Critter Hunting Licenses" (it's a year-long season, LOL).
I was of victim of home invasions twice. The first guy I shot in the neck and upper chest (classic double tap).
The second time it was a group of three. I told them, "Wait! I have the key to my safe right on top of this cabinet." I grabbed my pistol off of the top of it, spun toward one of them, pressed the gun the center of his forehead. I saw his eyes go wide and heard him gasp right when I pulled the trigger.
Many years ago, a coworker's husband was feuding with a neighbor in a small town in WV. The guy called his neighbor up and goaded him until the neighbor was screaming mad. The neighbor headed for their trailer, came through the front door toward the back bedroom, where coworker's hubby sat on the bed with a shotgun and promptly (and literally) blew the neighbor's head off.
Scary stuff no matter how you slice it.
Yep, should have plugged him.
dammmmmm!!!! tell us the rest of the story dude!
"dammmmmm!!!! tell us the rest of the story dude!"
The first guy was a hitman hired by my wife to kill me. The ironic thing about that is that I shot him with HER 9mm Taurus. I slept next to that bitch for a year before I knew she and her lover were behind it. At the time that it happened I thought it was related to a busted weed deal in Mexico where a couple of people were injured (*cough* shot *cough*).
The second guy owes every single sunrise he has seen since that day to my mom. I was wearing a cast on one leg and she tackled me right when I pulled the trigger. Of course seeing I was armed and willing to smoke them made those bastards beat feet right into the arms a deputy that had just pulled up to visit his dad across the street and had heard the shot.
Or worse maybe the rifles didn't have any sporting use and were solely designed to kill people.... That would be a travesty.... ;-)
ping
rkv- DO you really think that would be enough ? I think maybe !!
Pittsburgh ping.
