GOD THE FATHER... and liberal view for home abuse and violence against women.

(...) GOD THE FATHER...

But some experts believe any male-dominated religion, in which God and his prophets or apostols are male figures, creates conditions for the subordination and abuse of women.

Predominantly Catholic Poland, although free from "honour killings", has a problem with violence against women, rooted in the strong influence of the Catholic church on public life, Polish minister for gender equality Magdalena Sroda said.

"Catholicism does not directly support or oppose violence against women. But there are indirect links through culture which is strongly based on religion," Sroda told Reuters.

"It is a structure based on patriarchal domination of God the Father and the less important role of woment can be seen for example in the letters of Saint Paul," she said.

Asma Jahangir, U.N. Special Rapporteur on religious freedom, said many courts condoned patriarchial violence by letting the perpetrators get away with "a slap on the wrist".

"In 405 documented cases of honour killings in Afghanistan so far this year only 20 arrests were made," she said.

Zorayha Rahim Sobrany, deputy minister for Women's Affairs in Afghanistan, said the concept of women's equality to men was slow to take root, but that progress was being made.

"We need time. We must move step by step. If you go too fast, the reaction is that people close themselves," she said.

"...But some experts believe..."

Experts in what? Certainly not an understanding of Christianity where women are regarded as nothing less than spiritual equals of men.

What about the Blessed Virgin Mary? She has no role in Catholicism. --sarcasm

They cannot criticize Islam without taking a swipe at Christianity.

"creates conditions for the subordination and abuse of women."

This is getting to what the left really wants to do, which is to have Christianity declared unconstitutional. Twenty years ago I would have laughed at the idea, but the recent attacks on marriage, tax exempt status, the Ten Commandments and bans on the use of Christian imagery have changed my mind.

I love how they jump from Catholicism to Islam without skipping a beat to make the implication they want...

This is the same church that gave near deity status to Mary, the Mother of God? Someone is looking for an excuse to blame religion for society's ills.

And that's a pretty huge jump at that. One spectrum to the other.

What's driving this nonsense?

See feminist Cynthia Eller's book The Myth of Matriarchal Prehistory: Why an Invented Past Will Not Give Women a Future. Basically, academic feminists are trying to pretend that the world (or Europe, at least) was once a peaceful matriarchal goddess-worshiping place until those evil patriarchal male god-worshiping warriors showed up. Eller, an honest feminist, points out that that's not what the evidence shows. And Lawrence Keeley, in his book War Before Civilization shows that the peaceful part is a bunch of bunk, too.

But you should know where this is coming from. Feminist New Age nonsense.

"...Catholicism does not directly support or oppose violence against women...."

Another beauty of a statement.

So it "indirectly" does, then? As if the bible has nothing to say about opposing injustice and evil of any kind.

I think my conservative, devout Catholic wife would disagree with the premise.

If she doesn't, I'll give her a good whack.

The increasing feminization of religion has had disastrous consequences on religious faith. A study completed in Switzerland discovered that when fathers practiced their religion, faith is much more likely to be passed-on to the next generation. This was not true in the case of mothers.

There was an earlier version of this article which started out chronicaling the thousands upon thousands of "honor" killings in Islamic cultures each year, then mentioned the ridiculous Polish Catholic connection almost as an afterthought. Evidently, the Reuters editors decided to change the focus to the attack of Christianity...

Eller notwithstanding, when has the left lib movement ever seriously considered evidence in setting their agenda?

Remember George Gilder's book, "Men and Marriage"?
