Christmas Under Siege: The Big Picture
Tuesday, December 07, 2004
By Bill O'Reilly
Christmas under siege the big picture. That is the subject of this evening's "Talking Points Memo."
All over the country, Christmas is taking flak. In Denver this past weekend, no religious floats were permitted in the holiday parade there. In New York City, Mayor Bloomberg unveiled the holiday tree and no Christian Christmas symbols are allowed in the public schools. Federated Department Stores, [that's] Macy's, have done away with the Christmas greeting, "Merry Christmas."
Now, all of this anti-Christian stuff is absurd, and may even be a bias situation. But the real reason it's happening has little to do with Christmas and everything to do with organized religion.
Secular progressives realize that America as it is now will never approve of gay marriage, partial birth abortion, euthanasia, legalized drugs, income redistribution through taxation, and many other progressive visions because of religious opposition.
But if the secularists can destroy religion in the public arena, the brave new progressive world is a possibility. That's what happened in Canada.

Be sure to go read the whole thing! This is an excellent commentary on the situation we're facing.
Last night I left it on Fox while I was doing something else, and was surprised to hear this "Talking Points" memo--had to double-check to make sure it was really O'Reilly!
The TRUTH, that's spelled TRUTH... is oh so refreshing!
So what happened to O'Reilly? Did Santa Claus threten to bring all his reindeers down the chimney?
As they say, even a stopped watch is right twice a day. :-)
"Secular progressives realize ..."
Well, at least he recognizes that there might be secular conservatives.
Now I am against income redistribution through taxation as much as the next guy, but is it because of religious reasons that people are against it?? I am against it because its a stupid idea.
Good piece, nice contrast between how they did it in Canada and what they want to do here, and the results
This issue is a no brainer.
OReilly is still a egotistical blowhard who will change his tune at the drop of the hat just to prove his so-called impartiality.
Yes, because [heaven] forbid we acknowledge the historical fact that our [Christ]mas holiday comes directly from religious celebrations. [Heaven] forbid we admit that anyone at any time at any point in history has been [Christian.] [Heaven] forbid that our kids be exposed to any facts, any history, any literature, or anything else that so much as mentions [God.]
(Words in brackets may be removed to avoid offense, because [heaven] forbid that anyone besides [Christians] should ever be offended or have to recognize the truth of our cultural heritage.)
Let me clue you in.
O'Reilly stakes out positions on topics based on his desire to fool everybody some of the time, not based on what he actually believes.
By staking out internally inconsistent positions that are all over the map, every member of his audience will once in awhile exclaim "O'Reilly is finally on the right side of something!"
And those audience members hang on day after day, pumping up his ratings, waiting for the next time one of Bill's carefully crafted random positions coincides with one of theirs.
PT Barnum deja vu all over again.
Uh, I think it's because of lazy entitlement reasons...

"Talking Points" is convinced that the USA cannot defeat terrorism and any other evil without a strong, traditional foundation that clearly defines right from wrong. The struggle today is not about Christmas, but about the spirit of our country.

O'Reilly comes out in favor of Christmas. How bold. Next thing you know, he'll come down in favor of apple pie and baseba...well, apple pie anyway.
Heads are gonna roll when The Big Guy/The Higher Power/God gets tired of this ant-religion crusade.
O'Reilly made an excellent point several nights ago which I have tried to paraphrase.
JudeoChristian philosophy is the basis for Western law. That philosphy in and of itself should not be separated from the State, as it is not the practice of any particular religion. JudeoChristian philosophy merely describes the requirements for civilized behavior, based on centuries of study, knowledge and wisdom.
The actual theism for religious worship, practices and appertinences of Judeism, Catholicism and forms of Protestantism should rightfully be left to those organizations of faith.
"Secular progressives" substitute w/ Incestuous Pagans
"progressive visions" substitute w/ progressive illness'
