HMMMM... wonder if she's any relation to Margaret Sanger?

Santa may be the "star" of their parade. But the Star of Bethlehem shone over the stable where God became incarnate. Jesus is the center of the celebration of Christmas.

But...but...but....
"Happy Holidays" is used only in fall and winter. Those of us who celebrate Independence day, Memorial Day, etc., feel slighted and discriminated against.

I am offended at the lack of sensitivity shown by the company...

. . . our goal is to be inclusive of all and exclusive of none.

Therefore, any of our employees who mentions the word "Christmas" will be dismissed at once. This will show everyone that we are "inclusive." (Black is white, up is down, etc.)

I have no problem with Macy's addressing a mixed group of people with "season's greetings", because Christmas is a celebration of the birth of Christ, and not everybody in their target market is Christian.

On the other hand, the idea that honoring Christian traditions is taboo, and that they must be banned while affording full respect to other faiths, is just wrong.

I don't care if sectarian-type people celebrate Christmas as the "Great Day Off With Presents" or the celebration of the birth of the baby Santa, I don't care if Muslims or Jews ignore it altogether.

It's a Christian holiday, and it should be keep holy. But it's only one day. not the entire season. And as long as Macy's isn't marketing exclusively to Christians (riiiiight...),they get a pass for using the more generic greeting.

However, I'm Christian, and if ya know that and you are addressing just me and not a group, I expect "Merry Christmas". Just as I would wish others a happy Hanukah or happy Ramadan if I knew that to be appropriate. (To those who have objections to a religious-toned message, I usually just say "have a nice day off".

What a cop out. Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Christ and has nothing to do with non Christian groups.

Last year I got a Macy's gift card in a Macy's presentation envelope marked "Merry Christmas". From a Jewish client.

For the record, Macy's also had on display, gift cards in "Seasons Greetings" and "Happy Hanukkah" envelopes.

Oh this whole issue makes me CRAZY!!!!! It's all about Christmas people. Hannakua is an important and holiday for the Jews, but it is NOTHING compared to Yom Kipur and Passover. As for Kwanza, it's nothing but a made up holiday like the Festive Pole in Seinfield.

Christmas IS the reason for the season, otherwise why not have all the vacations and sales in January or February. It's DECEMBER 25th because that is the day Christians celebrate the birth of JESUS CHRIST!!!!!. Hello secular left wing. You can't take away Christmas anymore.

This year I am sending out Christmas cards, not happy holiday cards. I'm telling my kids it's Christmas vacation, NOT winter break. I'm saying Merry Christmas to the clerks in stores. I'm taking Christmas back!

What exactly was your complaint?

Do they not use the word Christmas at all and if so it's a firing offense?

What exactly happened that got you upset, please.

I didn't know about this. Ms. Sanger's "explanation" is just as offensive as Macy's decision. Thanks for the info.

I saw the post yesterday saying Macy's was getting rid of Christmas. Having spent 4 hours last Friday at a Macy's in Miami, I can tell you I saw many references to Christmas. From tree decorations, manger scenes of evert type, signs saying specifically Merry Christmas (along with Hannukah and seasons greetings). I was also told Merry Christmas by more a couple of sales clerks.

My experience is that Macy's is not doing away with Christmas but acknowledging that there are other holidays celebrated at the same time.

They are all totally nuts. If I visited a store in India, and received a Buddhist or a Hindu blessing, would I be insulted? Of course not. I would take it in the spirit in which it was given.

Are all those shoppers buying cards, presents and decorations, buying them for Ramadan -- or Kwanza -- or Hannukah?

This PC stuff is driving me crazy!!! Enough already!!!

The problem I have with this is that I just read an article here on FR that said that 96% of us are Christians! So all of this shunning of Christmas, and it is getting way out of hand because we have not stood up and done anything about it, is all so we might not offend the other 4% ??
