Jurors face difficult decision over Scott Peterson's fate
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — If the experience of those involved in past death penalty cases is any guide, the jurors in Scott Peterson's murder trial will have to grapple with raw and deep religious, moral and legal issues as they decide whether he lives or dies.
Arguments in the penalty phase are scheduled to begin Tuesday, but experts say many of the jurors may already have made up their minds about what punishment the 32-year-old former fertilizer salesman deserves.
In 2001, a California jury faced a case that holds some similarities to the Peterson trial. Todd Garton was a philandering husband convicted of the shocking murder of his young and very pregnant wife. Jurors said he deserved to die.
"I signed the document that the jury found for death and I think about that a lot," said Fred Castagna, who served as jury foreman. "It was emotional during deliberations, but I don't lose sleep over it."

I am simply dumbfounded that the jury found SP guilty without any physical evidence whatsoever. What were they thinking?
The execution will be after a series of appeals that will have Scott be an old man by the time its over. Easy decision because death will be delayed for so long the jury need not be worried about their role.
Perhaps you should address one of the SP thread regulars... I just show up to cause trouble.
You must realize they followed the law...The physical evidence could be said to be the bodies of Laci and Conner washing up 4 months later, 90 miles from home in the same area where Scott placed himself, "fishing" the day Laci disappeared.

I have learned through hard lessons in our business that nothing is over until the fat lady sings the final note.
Apparently Garagos is squeezing out a few more notes.
I just pray it doesn't turn into another aria and we get this finished and the fat lady off the stage.
Apparently there's a lot of action behind closed doors and so typical of Geragos' delay tactics. Let's hope this new witnesses (bartender) doesn't throw a wrench in the proceedings and proves to be as ineffectual as Geragos.
Thanks so much for the ping, RB. I can't believe it will be anything but the death penalty, but I suppose you never know. Often if a jury thinks there's some nagging doubt back at whether or not he did it, they'll opt for life. Not supposed to work that way with bifurcation but it does.
Now presiding judge handling something..everyone moving to his courtroom...Bartender testimony could be the problem...Vinnie saying this is TROUBLE...TH saying could be challenging subpeona...could be looking for immunity.

There is not a cheap trick that Geragos will not try. All he has left at this point is desperation and low tricks.
All this will only add more passion to the Rocha family's testimonies.
Wasn't Geragos found out as lying about the juror that he got thrown off for a bogus 'conversation' on a trip to Vegas or Tahoe? I'd hate to think unnecessarily bad thoughts about Geragos. ;-)

Go find a link of his phone call New Year's Eve when he claimed to his girlfriend he was watching the fireworks at the Eiffel Tower. He was actually at a prayer vigil for his 'missing' wife.

Looks like Geragos found a new stalling technique.
There is speculation that the bartender may have seen or heard misbehavior on the part of one or more jurors.
His lawyer (a good one, according to Kimberly) may be seeking to quash the supoena or to get immunity for the bartender.

Now they are in the Presiding Judge's chamber..The bartender's lawyer is a heavy hitter..It is all speculation...going for immunity?/Jurors talking about book deals,etc?
Geragos is going to drag this out until the end of time, IMO.
Geragos loves to drag it out..I hope this is as discredited as the other ploys..but the judge is hearing it.
I could live with the thoughts of Peterson having a view of the bay where he dumped their bodies.
That's a thought, but I would rather have him have a 24/7/365 reminder that he will never have the life that he killed to get.
I don't think this piece of garbage has any remorse whatsoever for the actual crime, only the consequences.
