A private plane crashed near Houston's Hobby Airport Monday. And it was a plane that was coming to Houston to transport former President Bush to a conference in Equador.
The plane went down Monday morning near Highway 288 and Beltway 8.
Former President Bush suspendeded his trip to Ecuador because of the crash. A conference organizer says the plane should have flown the ex-president from Houston. Houston District Fire Chief Jack Williams said that the twin-engine Gulfstream jet arriving from Dallas Love Field apparently clipped a tall light tower at a Beltway 8 toll plaza, shearing off a wing. He says the severed wing rests near the base of the tower.
Authorities have shut down Beltway 8 on both directions near Cullen. There is debris scattered across the lanes. Traffic is being directed off the Beltway and onto Cullen Road and Telephone Road.
Fire crews were able to douse the flames. Three people were on board. All three victims, two men and a woman, have been recovered. There were no survivors.
There are some reports of cars have suffered damage from debris, but no injuries on the ground have been reported.
Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Roland Herwig says the Gulfstream jet went down about 6:15am, one-and-a-half miles south of Houston's Hobby Airport.
Herwig says the Gulfstream G-1159-A flight originated at Dallas Love Field. He says the plane's registered owner is Jet Place Incorporated of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Houston Fire Department assistant chief, Rick Flanagan, said a part of the jet's wing was located near the base of one of the light poles. He said that the wreckage extended about 1,000 yards from the pole into a field.
Airport officials reported that the plane that was on approach to Hobby when it went down. There was a lot of fog and mist during the crash. There's no official word if that played a role in the fatal crash.
Yes, they all do.
Never mind, I see you already answered the question while I was drafting my question. Your prayer request is noted. Please let us know more about your friend. I'm sorry for your loss.
[Scratching scalp] Hmmm. I thought the bible was written in EBCDIC. Oh well.
I checked. It's not pretty. Put your tinfoil suit on before you go over there...
I'm so sorry for your loss.
That pressure to be on sched explains why the crew tried to duck in under minimums...
BTTT
Can that thread be re-opened? I would like to see it.
Shame on me, I said prayers for the Bush family, and disregarded the others. I think I may have said prayers when I read the other thread.
Prayers for all affected by this tragedy.
Darn, when I air controlled I always gave the Atstg. (Altimeter Setting)...who screwed up?
Wow!
I heard about that on the bottom of the hour news on WGST in Atlanta an hour ago.
This thread is back up Vel. I think the other was pulled because of no source.
I personally don't give a rats about those repugnant individuals anymore.
nah, you don't wanna know - the lead-off post is X President should have been on that plane (paraphrased) and went even more downhill from there. Ugly people there, eh
Yup, ABC13, NBC2, CBS11, whatever!
November 22nd.
The anniversary of John F. Kennedy's assassination.
Flew out of Dallas' Love Field too.
Chilling
When I heard about this crash earlier in the day, I wondered whose plane it might be. Not that many have use of a Gulfstream.
