HOW scary that we've bred - or imported - so many people so angered by Christmas that we no longer dare use the word in public. But why do we cave in to them so easily?
Last year, for example, Stonnington Council dropped the word "Christmas" from its Christmas celebrations and even banned a minister from quoting the Bible while speaking at a carols night. Why? Would he have provoked some enraged carol singer to attack him?
This year a Deer Park childcare centre scrapped its usual Christmas party, replacing it with an "inclusive" fairytale one.
Meanwhile, schools cancel nativity plays, businesses avoid the "C" word and send "Season's Greetings" cards instead, and city stores give no hint that their tinsel has anything to do with you know what.
What is odd is that this vandalism - or what the United Nations would call "cultural genocide" - is done in the name of "tolerance", as approved by our multicultural commissars, when it actually shows an intolerance that's manic.
These bans on Christmas would sadden far, far more people than they pleased - and probably nicer people. Is that fair?
Worse, these bans breed intolerance, by rewarding the fury of people who cannot watch indulgently as fellow citizens publicly celebrate something good that means much to them and this country.
When I lived in Hong Kong, I managed to enjoy Chinese festivals without ever getting cross with Confucius. I lived in Thailand without feeling so alienated by Buddhism that I had to gag a monk.
Is it really too much to demand a little such tolerance here from the heathens who hate Christmas?
"The only tradition that the Spaniards have is to bow down in the face of terror !"
gee, that's the christmas spirit. Must be downing a few tall egg nogs. The Catalans are great.
Glad to here it. Now tell your brethen who head up the ACLU!
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
I just finished putting my few hudred Christmas lights up outside in preparation for the traditional celebration of our savior Jesus Christ's birthday. And there are moose-limbs living right across from me. You should see the sparkle in their small childrens' eyes. There are a few houses on my block that decorate. But look where I live (see tagline)
You can't complain too much about anti Semitism if you are anti Christian.
But my point was meant to be:
When one may be criticised for being Christian, then one may be equally critised for being Jewish, more so most likely.
I've never really minded X-mas, mainly because in the Catholic Church X and P (Chi Rho in Greek, the first to letters of Christ) are a common symbol of Christ. Holiday also comes from Holy Day, I also find this humorous. Sparkle Time? Now that's ridiculous.
"And there are moose-limbs living right across from me."
I'm not familiar with the moose limbs, but as long as there are guys like you putting up christmas lights in mid-november in florida no amount of P.C. activists will be able to tamp down christmas.
gee, that's the christmas spirit. Must be downing a few tall egg nogs. The Catalans are great.
Sorry it was just a knee jerk reaction.
I don't know what the big deal is. I don't object to Jews having Jewish holidays, Buddhists having Buddhist holidays, etc. I also do not try to horn in on them in the name of "inclusion." It would be stupid to hear of a Buddhist holiday and run up and say "I want this to be more Christian." If someone wants to take part in Christmas, that is fine and dandy. If not, stop trying to ruin it for everyone else.
Most of the anti-christmas crowd is deep down Anti-Capitalist and anti-freedom.
Truly a beautiful card.
Do you think liberals hate Christmas because of the mother/child connotation?
I'm not seeing Christians demanding Menorahs being taken down. It seems to me more hatred of Jewish lawyers towards Christian traditions then Christian lawyers being intolerant of Jewish traditions! ACLU are the new NAZI's!
ACLU are the new NAZI's!
As a lawyer representing Nazi's I demand a retraction or I'll sue for defamation !
The history of anti Semitism has lain elsewhere. Anti Semitism has been a sad part of American history, as you know. However, I agree that the ACLU and other anti Christian Jewish activists are a malign influence, they are part and parcel of the Left...I had meant to make that clear.
The anti-Christian liberal crowd have it in in a big way for babies.
Not content with slaughtering them in abortuaries, they are now intent on removing all mention of the most influential baby in the history of the world.
I'm sorry my father is no longer with us, so I could repeat your high minded remarks to him. However, as one of the GI's you mention, he fought his way ashore in the first wave at Normandy, fought in the front lines of the Hedgerows in Normandy, the liberation of Paris, the bloody Battle of Hurtgen Forest, the Battle of the Bulge, and later his division occupied the camp at Dachau. By the time the war ended, his division had suffered over 200% casualties.
So thanks so much for your advice on what I should try telling to whom.
The fact that America did not attempt to exterminate Jews does not at all mean there has not been an anti Semitic past here; there has and is.
My point in addressing it on this thread was not to wave anti Semitism in your face, but to note that anti Semitism does not excuse anti Christian(ism) on the part of American Jews.
Please put away your hostility.
He did nothing of the sort. Step back and re-read what he wrote:
Sam said: Anti Semitism has been a sad part of American history, as you know.
That my FRiend, is a fact.
Just as slavery, race riots, prohibition and new Coke were all a sad part of American history.
