This arrogant brat is facing drug possession charges and disobeying the order of the court. And the JUDGE should be thrown in jail?

Are you sure you're in the right place here?

"the judge should be thrown in jail for being a jerk."

Why's HE a jerk?? SHE'S the one who refused to do as she ws told. She was already in court facing charges, and she's stupid enough to ignore the order of the jusge in her case? Tough bananas for her, maybe if she quit the drugs she'd have enough functional brain cells to know that when you're in a deep enough hole you stop digging.

the judge should be thrown in jail for being a jerk.

The arrogance of some of these tax paid government employees is beyond belief.

No wonder a lot of them run around armed and have guards on both sides of the bench, keeping their addresses as private as possible. They have good reason for this.

Any normal judge would have made a joke out of it, and made the young person feel like a fool instead of throwing them in a cage with convicted criminals.

This judge ought to have his ass kicked and put in jail with the same people he put there. Give him a taste of his own medicine.

Lets see, the first time it happened he warned them, and told them that if they didn't know how to turn off their phone to take it outside and to stomp it. That is about as clear a warning as one can receive. The jerk was the 17 y/o druggie that thought she was cutesy by not obeying the judge's order. Some actions have definate results, if she didn't learn it with the drugs, perhaps she learned it with her cell phone.

In a courtroom, you do what the judge says - or face the consequences.

A jerk? He warned them to turn the phones off or face contempt charges. It's not like it was a surprize.

No. The judge is in charge of keeping order. No gum chewing, no inappropriate attire, no cell phones. She got a warning. She needs to learn how to accept authority.

Sounds like the judge has that little punk's number. Good for the judge.

No. It's his courtroom. The participants in the room were warned. Too many "jerks" don't pay attention to rules, regulations and requests. These stupid phones ring in Church and at meetings. When I condust a meeting or a seminar, I announce that there will be NO CELL PHONE ACTIVITY in my meeting.

Why is that? Most courtrooms have signs at the entrance telling people to turn off their pagers and cell phones. One went off, and the judge gave a warning for everyone to follow (what were probably) the posted rules for the court room. When her phone started ringing AFTER the judge gave a warning, she WAS in contemp of court.

From looking at this thread, it's obvious that you and a few others don't understand anything at all about the seriousness of courtroom decorum and rules. I bet a hundred bucks the judge conveyed the cellphone warning with unmistakable clarity; and I wouldn't be surprised to learn that this girl rolled her eyes and purposefully defied him. I'd love to hear an eyewitness account.

PS: If you want to see "jerks" who abuse their power, how about liberal activists who create legislation from thin air with their rulings.

Why? Because he followed through on discipline? Maybe if someone had been a little more caring with this young woman sooner she might not be in his courtroom to begin with.

Republican, Democrat, Libertarian, Green party, little green men from mars.......doesn't matter. The Judge told everyone to turn off their cell phones and they all did but her.

I'll defer to the judge on this one. Ever tried to keep control of a crimminal courtroom. While some are no doubt innocent a lot are rude, arrogant, and downright annoying.

Gotta hold a hard line.

If you are 17 and don't know how to turn off your cell phone you are lying...

And you should go to DU. They probably think that the Right to A Cell Phone is mentioned in the Constitution. Or maybe they think it is a natural right (similar to life liberty and the pursuit of happiness).

Get lost you whiner.

She was warned to turn off the cell phone. It is a court room where she is not the center of attention. The punishment was correct.

I agree. Sometimes you think your cell phone is turned off (or at least on vibrate) and it isn't.

My brother died a few months ago. I thought I had turned my cell phone to vibrate, and it went off in the middle of the memorial service for my brother. At least, everyone there knew I had traveled to Texas from California and had three kids at home with dad. Everyone thought my husband had called, but it was a cousin who called instead to offer his sympathy.

No, the girl was wrong for having her cell phone on in a courtroom. Why is it that people think their lives are so damn important that yapping loudly into their cell phone at restaurantes, checkout lines, airports etc. and annoying everyone around, is perfectly acceptable behavior? When you are in a court of law, the judge is due the respect he has earned - and that includes respecting the signs that prohibit having your cell phone and beepers turned on.
