But......remember in Dodge Ball there are winners and losers....this is the problem! Why not give everyone a trophy after the game and tell the losers they were first runner ups. Nah.......in the Marines they would be known as First Losers.

Last night I took my son to see the Incredibles. There were a couple of lines that struck me.

Elastigirl to Mr Incredible " You know your going to miss your sons graduation."

Mr Incredible "Its not "graduation", he's moving from the 4th grade to the 5th grade. Now we are rewarding people for mediocrity, its ridiculous.

And at the end when the bad guy gives his monologue

"I will then sell my inventions so everyone can be Super, and when everyone is Super, no one will be."

Put a brick in the ball...that should speed them up.

Come on haven't you ever played dodgeball and continually aimed at the one kid that everyone picked on?

Unless he's exceptionally agile, what would be the point? First hit and he's out.

BB: We have hurt his feeling and left his low esteem beyond repair, how can you expect him now to grow and be a productive adult

CC: We are raising the biggest generation of wimps ever.

Yep. Someone needs to inform the liberals that Life is Difficult. Better learn to deal with failure, humiliation, rejection, etc. when you're still young, 'cause once you're out in the real world, life's not gonna pull any punches. The whole idea that "protecting" kids from emotional pain is benefical to them is ludicrous. The best lessons I learned as a kid (and as an adult, for that matter) were almost ALWAYS painful at the time. Learning to deal with difficulties is one of the things that helps us grow up in the first place.

Dodgeball is a blast, no matter what your speed or agility.

Well, actually, as the smallest (and youngest) person in my elementary classes (that's where we played dodge ball), I never found it fun. On rainy days for recess we either played dodgeball or scooters, and I far preferred scooters.

Of course, just because I didn't like it doesn't mean I think the courts should ban it from school ;-)

As one of the smallest...I got really good at dodging. Sometimes I'd go weeks at a stretch before being hit.

Dodgeball is DANGEROUS?!?

It was when I was a kid, we used bowling balls.,......but nobody ever cried because there's no crying in dodgeball.

Poker glorifies lying (bluffing). The repetative motions of picking up and holding cards, dealing and shuffling are causative of carpal tunnel syndrome.

Isn't one the pitch and one the catcher anyhow? Anyway I grew up with no dad at all, but I don't remember Father's Day as being all that traumatic.

The slower and less agile can try to become faster and more agile. To improve due to competitive pressure. Dodge ball uber alles!

Actually, last year I read where some schools were banning any observance of mothers day or fathers day. The company line was that some of the students might "feel bad" if they came from a family that had two dads or two moms and would thereby be left out of celebrating on a day that hit on the opposite sex of their parents.

Not surprising. The inanity of liberal logic (there's an oxymoron) never ceases to amaze me. Using their same line of reasoning, doesn't banning it potentially cause the kids who DO have mothers/fathers to "feel bad" for missing out on celebrating? And aren't they in the majority?

In the liberal utopia, the weakest link becomes the standard. Oh, there's a kid at school with only one arm? Well, let's ban ALL activities that require two arms. That way everyone can suffer so the poor kid with one arm doesn't have to. What? You don't agree? So, basically, you're saying that YOU think it's JUST FINE to upset the poor kid with one arm. He's only got ONE ARM for Pete's sake! Isn't his life hard enough already?!? You heartless, insensitive Republicans!!!

God, how stupid this is! We played in high school gym class and NO ONE got hurt! Don't know what schools use nowadays but we used volleyballs.

Ten years ago my son's elementary school pllayed dodgeball and scooters. Somehow playing scooters he fell on his chin and was taken to the hospital for a dozen stiches (cool scar). BAN Scooters! More Dodgeball!.

Son grew up to be an Eagle Scout, Captain of the Lacrosse Team, lead in plays and musicals, Cantor in Church Choir, National Honor Society, 1st Quintile grades, works and saves his money, doesn't drink or smoke, speaks well to and wih adults - generally an all-around good kid.

Therefore recess/PE accidents cause excellenece in High School.

Poker would be a good one.

No, the best player ends up with the most chips thus showing the inherent unfairness of the capitalist system. Maybe someone could invent socialist poker where everyone ends up with the same number of chips in the end. Except of course for the guy running the table. As the vanguard of the socialist revolution he should be justly rewarded by the society of the players for his hard work. < /sarcasm>

I used to love to play dodge ball (though we called it "Bombardment"). Yes, the better players did go after "the slower, less agile students" first. Get the Riff-Raff off the court and try to leave a red mark doing it. Then get down to the real business.

I still remember the sound of the ball slamming against those pull out wooden bleachers that formed the wall of the gym. What a rush.
