The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

That could be the pitiful lament we hear from negligent U.S. officials if Al Qaeda pulls off an attack on the United States using weapons of mass destruction smuggled across our southern frontier.

Were that horrendous event to happen, leaders in the administration and Congress would be justly hit with the same question that was perhaps unjustly cast at them and their predecessors after the unprecedented Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks: Why didn't they connect the dots?

General Leonardo Andollo told reporters on Sunday that MiG-29 jets, anti-aircraft batteries were to be deployed during the weeklong exercises meant to be a warning to Washington that Cuba would vigorously defend itself against US aggression.....

I've been watching the Space Weather site for 10 years. When a coronal mass ejection occurs, there is usually a large spike in X ray energy at the same time. If the ejection is directed at the earth, there is a 2 to 3 day delay for the particles to transit the 93 million mile distance. When the particles hit, there is a deflection of the magnetic field. The K index goes up. Proton levels often go up and the electron graphs become "trash" as the sensors are "poisoned" by the large proton flux.

We had a very high Kp index last month. Well in excess of 10 for over 8 hours. That's when you get a great aurora. The deflected magnetic field can't hold back the radiation streaming toward the earth and the sky lights up in hues of green, red and yellow.

The Kp index isn't a barometer of solar storms. It is an indicator of activity that occurred 2 to 3 days prior. Observing the X ray images in various wavelengths can provide a clue about the prospect of impending coronal ejection behavior. Complex magnetic activity on the surface exposes visible features that portend an ejection event.
