Mohamed El-Masry, a professor at a Canadian university and the president of the Canadian Islamic Congress will not be punished for his words against Israel, the university has said.
El-Masry said during a TV program that every Israeli over the age of 18 is a legitimate target for terror.
Prof and president of Islamic congress won't be disciplined: university

WATERLOO, Ont. (CP) - A University of Waterloo professor who is also the president of the Canadian Islamic Congress won't be disciplined for controversial comments he made about Israelis, the university announced Wednesday.
Mohamed Elmasry was a panellist on Ontario current affairs program Michael Coren Live last month when he said any Israeli over the age of 18 could be attacked because they are all members of the country's army.
The university released a statement Wednesday announcing the results of its investigation into Elmasry's comments.
"Although the statements made are indeed abhorrent and unacceptable, I have taken into account the contents of the apology and retraction and your long years of distinguished service as a faculty member at this university as well as your assurance that there will be no repetition of any such statements in the future," dean of science George Dixon said.
Elmasry, who is a professor of computer engineering, wrote an apology letter to Dixon retracting his comments, calling them "totally unacceptable."
"The statements were an aberration," Elmasry wrote. "It has always been a core belief of mine that killing civilians - any civilians for any cause - is an immoral act."
Officials with B'nai Brith Canada said in a statement that the university's decision to not discipline Elmasry is "unacceptable."
"Surely, Israeli students cannot feel comforted in knowing that a professor considers them to be fair game - 'legitimate' targets for murder," said executive vice-president Frank Dimant.
"(The university) has effectively alienated its students, which clearly cannot look to Elmasry - as they can to other professors - to teach by moral example."
Elmasry has already apologized publicly for his comments. He also offered to step down as president of the Islamic congress, but its board of directors refused to accept his resignation.
Despite Elmasry's remorse over the incident, Halton regional police have launched an investigation into his televised comments as a possible hate crime.
How does this not constitute a "hate crime" under Candian law? This is the problem with "hate crime" laws. Since they deal with intent rather than action, they can be interpreted politically according to whatever the party in power sees as being "wrong". As we all know, all leftist countries see the Pallies and their sympathizers as courageous freedom fighters and the Israelis as oppressors. Hence, hate crimes against everyone but Jews can be tolerated.
Please, I beg you invade us already,Canada is slipping away into an asylum of absurdity.
Interesting how the most devout Muslims seem to have a conscience that is guided by their own highly legalistic interpretation of scripture. But what do these people see when they look in the mirror?
The Liberal government of Canada supports terrorism, while filling their pockets with taxpayer money.
40% of Canadians are conservative.
It is the same as being a Bush supporter in Maine, or California.
As an identifiable group we understand the resentment; we resent our governments behavior as well.
George Bush is coming to Canada, and I for one will be out there to welcome him, ( Me and a few of my FRiends!)
Thank you for the great pictures, Diogenesis
Remember when Canada DIDN'T used to be the butt of int'l jokes? When the Anglo powers were US/UK/Canada (well, sort of)?
I'm glad the Aussies took their place, they're a tougher bunch.
Why don't you ask the Halton Police?
Halton regional police have launched an investigation into his televised comments as a possible hate crime.
Not really. Canada has always been the butt of jokes, even before we had Newfieland . But then the USA has always been the butt of jokes too. If you haven't heard them either you've been keeping the wrong company or you haven't been listening .
1 - LOL - he figured it out -
"Mohamed Elmasry ...said "any Israeli over the age of 18 could be attacked because they are all members of the country's army."
Which, using the logic of mathmatics, roughly translated means, that any Muslim over 18, anywhere, is also elligible for attack, including him.
Israel took this position when civilians were being kidnapped and held hostage. They took the position not to negotiate with hostages and instead said they would treat any kidnapped person as though they were a member of the military. (And in fact all citizens do take military training and up to some age can be recalled, so this is not at issue.)
As far as killing them being moral, how do you feel about Israel killing all their enemies, do you care if they are armed? Or may they be killed on the street?
I believe that in war, both sides are moral in attacking and killing the uniformed enemy. In a very real sense, those armed members of the IDF are moral targets. I would say killing adult Israelis at a bar mitzfa, restaurant, or on a bus is immoral, regardless of their military status, they are not uniformed and armed, and are not "on duty".
Under Canada's Hate Crime laws, he got an alternative of six months in jail or- two years probation. Thus followed 340 hours of community service. Instruction under an Imam was mandated.
The Imam made him read the Koran and derogatory statements about non-Islamic people. "You refuse and I will send you to jail" quoth the Imam. Poor Harding has had heart attacks and loss of livelyhood since. Ref WND Oct 31st. Art Moore.
Judge Sidney Linden who handed down his edict is Jewish. I would love to see Judge Linden called on this one.
My post #33. Guess who supported the Canadian "Hate Crimes" verdict against one Mark Harding and was very vocal. Why, it was Elmasry.
Gums are flapping. Clear as a bell.
Do people even absorb what is in the article? To begin with, it's a University that is letting him off. The local authorities are still looking into the issue.
I mean them Dutch seemed like patsies, did they not?
A little more grape shot and heaven help certain arrogant Islamists over there. One cannot be too sure as to a nations calibre initially.
Canada is embracing an insane policy that will eventually bite them in the ass.
Those yahoos from the Blue Cities (I won't use the term Blue States) will feel right at home in Canada. Total tolerance, yeah.
