NBC Says Marine Shot Dead Wounded Iraqi Prisoner
Rooters via Yahho!News ^ | November 15, 2004

LONDON (Reuters) - A television pool report by U.S. network NBC said on Monday that a U.S. Marine had shot dead an unarmed and wounded Iraqi prisoner in a mosque in Falluja.

The Iraqi was one of five wounded prisoners left in the mosque after Marines had fought their way in on Friday and Saturday. There was no immediate comment from the Pentagon (news - web sites) on the report.

U.S. forces launched an offensive one week ago on Falluja, and have gained overall control of the formerly rebel-held city, although scattered resistance remains.

The pool report by NBC correspondent Kevin Sites said the mosque had been used by insurgents to attack U.S. forces, who stormed it and an adjacent building, killing 10 militants and wounding the five.

Sites said the wounded had been left in the mosque for others to pick up and move to the rear for treatment. No reason was given why that had not happened.

A second group of Marines entered the mosque on Saturday after reports it had been reoccupied. Footage from the embedded television crew showed the five still in the mosque, although several appeared to be already close to death, Sites said.

He said one Marine noticed one of the prisoners was still breathing.

A Marine can be heard saying on the pool footage provided to Reuters Television: "He's fucking faking he's dead. He faking he's fucking dead."

"The Marine then raises his rifle and fires into the man's head. The pictures are too graphic for us to broadcast," Sites said. No images of the shooting were shown in the footage provided to Reuters.

The report said the Marine, who had returned to duty after being shot in the face a day earlier, had been removed from the field and was being questioned by the U.S. military.

Sites said the shot prisoner "did not appear to be armed or threatening in any way."

He (the Marine) might have been unwound by an earlier booby trap. The ,ass media will tear him to shreds and the rest of the military with him. They never did care about our military, adn only paid John Kerry, Vietnam War Hero ® homage because they were ordered to. Hell, John Kerry has never thought twice about victimizing our soldiers either

Maybe someone should ask Chrissy if "freedom fighters" routinely behead, disembowel, and tear the arms and legs off of innocent women. Chrissy is a POS.

The marine did his job. If he is "interrogated" or maligned in any way what does that say to the other troops? Are they going to be second guessed in every combat situation? IMHO, the marine will be returned to duty quickly with no further mention of this .

Rules of engagement have cost this country dearly in precious treasure... the lives of our sons and daughters. The terrorist scum and their supporters didn't sign on to the Geneva Convention. War is hell.

Get the media out of the combat areas.

Support our troops.

Thanks. After I posted I remembered that Ernie was killed. My uncle was a medic and met him in France. He really admired him.

He's got my support. This is literally in the heat of battle. People get killed all the time. That's war. He didn't go into a prisoner's compound, drag him outside and execute him. If we tie the hands of our brave warriors we are undercutting their effectiveness and putting their lives at risk. Why did NBC run this tape now? Are they absolutely committed to US failure in Iraq?

Good points. And something we should remember:

Given the fanaticism of these terrorists, we should have had every expectation that this fighting in Fallujah would have been as terrible, merciless and without quarter as the fighting in the Pacific against the Japanese. They rarely gave our Marines no quarter, and we rarely gave them quarter.

Can you imagine if this piece of crap reporter had been on Iwo Jima in WWII, and had to see the horrible things men did to each other? This really pisses me off.

Your answer to your last question: "Are they absolutely committed to US failure in Iraq?"

Is:

Yes.

I keep telling you folks that the Democrat "traitor" Party has emboldened and abetted the enemy. They have put, and continue to put our military in harms way. All you had to do to get a clear picture of treason was to have watched Chris Matthews show tonight. This current Democrat Party of treason must be destroyed at the ballot box forever. Wake up America!!!

He's got my support too. It's obvious there's considerably more to this story than we're being told by the mass media. They're just drooling for a war crimes story, to further the Next Vietnam propaganda. The marine is innocent until proven guilty in my book, period, and that HEAVILY includes extenuating circumstances.

"Nazis we were fighting in Germany in WWII weren't bad guys. They just didn't agree with us and were defending their country."

no, I don't think this is the best analogy

the Islamic terrorists are not defending any nation-state, but an extreme ideology;

Nazis were bad guys; not all German soldiers defending their country were bad guys -- nor were they perceived to be; they were just soldiers, doing their duty; and there has always been respect between soldiers on the opposing sides for the other guy just doing his duty, too, or trying to survive. It was a necessity to kill him before he killed you. No hard feelings, so to speak. Both sides understood that under other circumstances, that did not exist at the moment, they could be friends. I don't think that applies to Islamic terrorists; if the war wasn't on, would they be our friends? No, they would be scheming to kill civilians.

I read an article recently about D-Day. After convoluted events, a US and German soldier ended up in the same hole. They agreed not to kill each other. Or one did not kill the other, so later, the other did not allow him to be killed . . . You can read of the same things in the Civil War. There is respect among enemy soldiers. Real soldiers are not "bad guys" even if they are the enemy -- so to speak. Simplified of course.

I do not think Islamic terrorists fall into this category. They do not just disagree with us, but seek the total destuction of civiliazation as we know it. Chris Matthew's comments are beyond absurd and insulting.

I am glad you brought up the consequences to his fellow Marines. Just waiting a split second to "think" about the ramifications will get you dead.

These are the same people that in Israel, think nothing about strapping suicide belts on their children to blow up buses.

It is just so obvious that so many people, the MSM, the dems are living in pre 9/11. WWII when the enemy wore uniforms and different shaped helmets so they could be "recognized" at a distance. And, even though they were at war, most of them didn't want to die any more than our soldiers did.

BTW, O'Reilly just came out big time on the side of the Marine. The woman he was talking about it too, made a comment about the Marine checking to make sure the guy wasn't an Iraqi citzen. Bill just shook his head and said, "there's no Iraqi CITIZEN in there".

I wasn't talking about all German soldiers. Only Nazis. Just as you weren't talking about all Iraqis, just Islamic terrorists.

I agree. The MSM and their cohorts leading the Democrat party want Iraq to be another Vietnam, and they are doing all they can, as they did during the Vietnam War, to see that this happens. They supported Kerry not because he was a so-called war hero, but because he was an anti-war protestor and traitor.

Right. The reason is that terrorists are not soldiers. Soldiers have a sense of duty and honor in defending their country. Terrorists have no duty, no honor, and no country to defend.

This could have been a trap. This Marine was in a war if he didn't shoot first maybe the terrorist would have pull the trigger on a bomb. just a thought

NBC called Kerry a war hero, but questions this man's honor. Who's side are they on.

After convoluted events, a US and German soldier ended up in the same hole. They agreed not to kill each other. Or one did not kill the other, so later, the other did not allow him to be killed .

Lee Marvin starred in a movie "Hell in the Pacific" that explored just that. He is a Naval fighter pilot and crashes on a small island that already is inhabited by a crashed Japanese pilot (Toshiro Mifune). Will they kill each other or live together? Good movie. Worth putting on your Netflix list.
