These comments come from Uc Berkeley's Daily paper. My comments are in parathesis:
Bushs campaign, on the other hand, acted in a way that is in perfect congruence with the attitude of his administration: brazen arrogance and go-it-aloneness. Even before all the networks had given Bush the victory, his campaign told reporters Tuesday night that they were declaring victory. At least in 2000, the candidates waited until after the networks had made a final projection before doing so.(FOX, NBC, MSNBC all called it Tuesday night) Granted, the networks got it wrong, but at least the candidates waited. I will give Bush this much credit: He waited until after Kerrys phone call to make his victory speech.
Without sounding too much like an after-school special, Id claim that there were no losers on Tuesday. Bush won, obviously. So, too, did Kerry: The nation discovered that this man, once characterized as an arrogant, out-of-touchalmost EuropeanMassachusetts liberal, was actually a great man and a classy guy.(They did?)
With all this talk of healing and unity now, Id like to take this opportunity to sow the seeds of discord and partisanship. If theres one thing thats pissing me off, its the outpouring of civility and mutual respect following the election. If I were Sen. John Kerry, Id be throwing furniture at random people. (Calm yourself, tolenant liberal)
The rains came to Berkeley on Wednesday and have been around ever since. No one is sure if the rain will ever let up, because ever since the truth became clear on Tuesday night, a pall has consumed the left coast. What happened? When did I fall so far out of the mainstream? How did Democrats lose four seats in the Senate and at least three in the House? Which America re-elected President George Bush?(The patriotic one)
But do not give up or think too long that you are out of touch with the United States populace because you disagree with where we are heading. Liberals do not have to move right to win, we just have to pick up the message-building and motive-obscuring tactics that have allowed the party of wealthy tax cuts to win Rust-belt Ohio.(Liberal admits to trying to obscure motive)
I take it for granted that most of the Daily Cals readership was less-than-excited about last Tuesdays results. I feel your pain. If anybody had told me a month ago that President Bush would win the popular vote by more than 3 million people, I would have laughed in his face. Then, I would have paused for a moment. Then, I would have continued laughing.(Never underestimate the evil Karl Rove.)
VERY true. A liberal friend of mine asked me "Why are you a conservative?" My answer: Look at california.
Blotter acid. And Qeludes. They will feel just about normal after that. And won't bug regular folks like us.
That's despair they're in at Berkeley. 'Dispair' would be too much like 'disrepair', which means it might be fixable. 'Bekeley' is also a misspelling, but I doubt if the rads up there know the difference or have even an inkling about whom their city and university were named after.
I can see how the truth could do that to the left coast. They're really not used to that sort of thing.
Oh, I don't know about that. I've had an ear-to-ear grin here in the south bay area for the last week and a half or so. :=)
In other words, this guy thinks the dems can bail themselves out by just lying more -- a clear admission that if dems tell the truth about themselves, nobody will vote for them.
Me too. The people, and some students, there are bitter about everything, trust no one, have no faith in anything or anyone - they seem to get validation only from finding people and groups to hate. But I also saw they go about their lives seeking for the very benefits that a capitalistic Republic with strong moral values has brought : safe neighborhoods for their kids, wealth, good health, and peace. You'll never find that they would never admit to such.
I went there a public school system-brainwashed Marxist and left there a re-affirmed Reagan Republican (I was one when I was little).
I live in Kensington, Bob, right nextdoor to Berkeley. Here's what I do these days. I walk around Berkeley wearing a Washington Huskies ball cap. Big "W" on the front. In fact, it looks almost identical to the "W" caps from the Bush campaign. When the occasional liberal confronts me about the cap, I turn around and show him the "Huskies" and paw print on the back. I just love the confused expression on their faces.
A sweeping generalization, I know ... and I realized it as I wrote it. But you tacitly agreed with me in your response: You've been grinning in the South Bay area because you're part of a tiny minority there, and your side won!
Or New York, or Philadelphia, or...just about any of the Kerry areas on the county map!
The utter cluelessness is summed up in this one statement. Anyone who doesn't recognize that place is out of the mainstream is already about as ignorant as one can get...
...as bad as the Bush-state hayseeds who've never left their home. </s>
Many of you fail to understand the differences between liberals and conservatives anyway.
Living proof that the voting age needs to be raised to 25-30 is on campus.
The ranks of the instructors needed vetting decades ago.
Time for all the "men" to console one another in the Berkeley bath houses.
Time after time again it's not what they do, or or their bizarre view of the world, it's their inability to get their 'message' across. It's the obstruction of their efforts to makes us understand the absolute righteousness of their intent by Retro Neanderthals. How can we possibly work with that? Start over at home? Start over in the schools?
Yes, do think that, please, not because I would want you or your worldview ever to succeed. But, because I have to share this planet with you and because your cluelessness and your total dissociation from reality distorts and perverts the very social progress you claim to support.
Good post, but remember next time - 'spell checker is your friend', especially here at FR.
