MOUNTAINTOP, Pa. - A Luzerne County perfume factory is closing at the end of the year, leaving 200 people out of work.
New Dana Perfumes Inc., the maker of fragrances including Tabu, English Leather and Love's Baby Soft, will close its plant in Wright Township, said Peter Schreiber of Dimeling, Schreiber & Park, the Philadelphia investment firm that bought the perfume-manufacturing operation in July 1999
Dana Classic Fragrances Inc., which holds the trademark to the names and formulas and markets and sells the perfumes, will continue to operate - but officials were uncertain where the plant will be or who will manufacture the products, said Al Cowger, executive vice president of Dana Classic.
Cowger said that union president Jack Keiling was notified that the 40-year-old plant would close in 60 days. Neither Schreiber nor Keiling could be reached for comment Friday.
Two separate companies - New Dana Perfumes and Dana Classic Fragrances - worked together at the 99,000-square-foot site to manufacture, bottle, market, sell and ship the fragrances. The three contracts for purchasing, manufacturing and consulting expire at the end of the year and were not renewed.
Dana Classic, based in Coconut Creek, Fla., owns the Dana trademark and purchases the bottles, supplies and components used in the manufacture of the perfumes. Dana Classic, which is not laying off any employees, pays New Dana to make the product, fill the bottles and store the inventory.
That stinks.
Blue state.
Perhaps this will force Michael Moore to resort to soap, water, and deodorant rather than masking the stench.
People allergic to perfume will be so happy.
I am allergic to perfume. Cigarettes are okay.
Factories should be forbidden from closing due to strict capitalistic rules.
And I bet these 200 will cut down on their mushroom consumption!!
Yeah, it doesn't pass the smell test.
I need to find a bottle of English Leather to put in my hubby's Christmas stocking. It's what he was wearing 40 years ago when we started dating.
There goes the OL FACTORY......
Soup lines gettin' longer. Brother, can you spare a dime?
I feel the same way about British Sterling......
Ahhhhh, Tabu, that brings back memories of my high school prom. I saved my lunch money for a month to buy a bottle of that stuff :o)

I did that with the old Avon product called Occur. Almost everyone of my favs has fallen by the wayside. Loved an old Lucien deLong perfume by the name of Tailspin. Wish someone would bring that one back too.
LOL, it SURE DID!
This is the leftover of Renaissance Cosmetics which filed for Chapter 11 back in 98 or 99 - due to lack of any management
