Is Rush Marrying Again So Quickly?
WaPo and NY Daily News ^

Posted on 11/13/2004 7:00:02 AM PST by Yaelle

From the New York Daily News:

ARE RUSH Limbaugh and CNN's Daryn Kagan talking marriage? According to U.S. News & World Report, friends of the couple say Kagan could become the fourth Mrs. Limbaugh as soon as the divorce from his third wife, Marta, comes through. Word is the right-wing flight commander has asked Kagan's family for clearance for take-off...

From the Washington Post:

Well, well, well. Rush Limbaugh and CNN newsgal Daryn Kagan's hot and heavy (not to mention surprising) romance is escalating, says U.S. News & World Report's Paul Bedard. Whispers of happily ever after are in the air, and apparently Limbaugh has even talked to Kagan's fam about their future, which can start just as soon as the conservative radio king's third divorce is finalized.

Why does he have to get married so fast?

Maybe he is pregnant.

"i don't see how either of them, carville or matlin, can seriously hold those beliefs and share their LIVES with someone who holds diametrically opposed beliefs."

Neither can I. Especially when politics is so much a part of their lives. Gives a whole new meaning to sleeping with the enemy.

it is a little easier to understand if people change over the course of their marriage and someone becomes a conservative and the lib stays lib. But going into a relationship knowing that someone avidly holds the opposing view, i just don't get. what do you TALK about? what is the common ground?

Somebody's going to change, and I hope it's not Rush. Giuliani was married to a liberal TV personality, and he definitely became much more liberal because of her. However, I guess he didn't move fast enough, because she eventually ended up taking every opportunity to cut him down, even during his campaign. And that, as we all know, did end in divorce.

I don't see Rush finding that "happy place" till he figures out where it went the first three tries.

But a guy who's been married 3 times still qualifies to be their spokesman?

There is nothing to figure out. It only requires one to stand and deliver as a team. The odds of his next marriage lasting until death do them part is low, but it is not zero and they could make it last their lifetimes.

The only common ground fathomable is that both parties like to argue....hardly a basis for a sound marriage. When Rush is busy giving a speech to National Review, or goes to a republican dinner, what does his wife do? Trash his POV in front of his peers??

His first two marriages were over before he became a national figure, so I suppose one could say they don't count.

Most people I know are willing to give the benefit of the doubt to anyone who has had one bad marriage. But three bad marriages for someone in his fifties? What do marriage vows mean to Limbaugh? Til death do us part, or until I get sick of you?

Rush's problem is his tremendous ego. No one woman can satifsy it.

Points taken, but someone can have a crappy personal life and be a good leader. Just look at King David.

Rush may be able to put forward some convincing arguments for the conservative cause. When it comes to values, though, he is completely vulnerable to criticism offered by the Left.

Bill Bennett was right when he said that divorce has caused far more damage to the institution of marriage (and therefore the family) than gay marriage ever will.

He's got a brilliant mind, and a screwed up life.

Who are we to judge if his life is screwed up or not?

#1 rated talk show; more money than you know what to do with; work from home; "work" is a few hours a day pontificating about what you believe; apparently have the love and company of a beautiful, intelligent woman; have overcome some difficulties including drug addiction and hearing loss. I know it's not a charmed life, but it doesn't seem like a screwed up life to me.

Let's reserve "screwed up life" for people like Mike Tyson, MC Hammer, Daryl Strawberry, and Paul Reubens -- people who were at the top of their game and then screwed up so bad that they lost everything. Rush, by luck or by design, hasn't lost much when he was shown to be human.

When/if Rush is out on the street corner, selling autographed copies of his books to pay for child support or his next dose, then I'd say Rush has screwed up his life.
