I was giving another interpretation - the one that I would have reached - in answer to your question.

It is wrong to kill human beings who are not endangering anyone for the benefit of others - no matter how much we personally love the ones who may benefit.

There is no such thing as a right to life at the expense of another's right to life. If I die of kidney failure because there are no cadaver organs with the correct MHA typing, I will not die because any of the rest of us have more of a right to life than I or because the rest of you *want* me to die sooner. I will die because of my diseased kidneys.

BTw:

What I don't understand is how anyone can say that killing an 8 week old baby isn't the same as killing an 8 year old child.

How about an 8 minute old single-celled zygote?

You are the one who will be on the short side of this one, either way, based on your views.

Actually, you are wrong; first of all, most people on this forum are pro-life -- but the vast majority of them are not MILITANT about it; you can't guarantee that all of them would "leave" with you.

Plus, if the extreme right wing left the GOP, more than like conservative Democrats would feel comfortable here and add their numbers.

We win in one way, at least.

Oh, I know you win -- in one way: and it's the most important way to most of you: destroying the GOP as it is today; after all, you need to "teach us a lesson," right?

"But if I were to say that IMO you represent the Taliban wing of the GOP and are the ugly face of the GOP, you'll hit that abuse button like a crack addict reaching for his pipe."

If the GOP muffs this term of Bush's and we get more David Souters and Sandra Day O'Connors on the Supreme Court (and ESPECIALLY if replacing Rehnquist or Scalia) then it has just written its own suicide note.

Wow. Now, you're engaging in blatant ignorance or outright intellectual dishonety - or delusional denial...

Threat, schmeat. The odor from the GOP will be so intense that a 100 lb. vise on the nose will not render it possible for the GOP's erstwhile pro-life constituency to vote for them any more. The GOP will do themselves in, if they do not bork Spector and go nuclear.

Two words: Zell Miller.

You really don't know how few Zell Millers there are left in the Democrat Party, do you...

"Disproportionate" "percentage"

The numbers increased for both sides, ours quite a bit more than the Democrats.

Regardless, our nation is a republic and the voters select the lawmakers. We must inform them of our priorities after the election just as we do before.

Do you have a link for that quote? It didn't come up in my google news search.

The moment he starts preaching to Bush again as though he were the voice of the Democrats, resulting in most of the evangelical AND Catholic base recoiling, we will be all over you saying we told you so. "Advise and consent" means the whole freekin' Senate!!! Not one RINO.

Q: What is your opinion on partial-birth abortion?

George W. Bush: The next president should set this goal for America: Every child, born and unborn, protected in law and welcomed into life. That’s what the next president ought to do. The question is which one of us can lead America to appreciate life.

Source: GOP Debate on the Larry King Show Feb 15, 2000

I realize it is not said, but that is the closest I remember the President ever coming to saying he would like to overturn Roe v Wade. Aside from his saying we need to promote a culture of life - and we must value every life, including the unborn, whenever the subject comes up. Well, except when he talked about the Dred Scott decision. ;)
