There are still quite a LOT of unanswered question here and "facts" proffered,that don't stand up.
I never said that she had IVF...those posts referred to another very old new mother of twins.
Assumptions can be a dangerous thing when talking about people on welfare. Believe that!
So what are you suggesting? I saw the lady on the news and the picture does her no justice. She looks 50 years old and healthy. And yes some women especially black women are very fertile and continue to menstrate into their late 50's. It sounds like to me that you are saying she had IVF? Someone else just looked at the picture and asked about welfare. So what is it? Make up your minds.
I don't know or care what race this woman is. I read that she started pumping out kids when she was 15 and is still having them 45 years later, and assumed she was gaming the system.

Thirdly,rather than race,I based my replies on the info in the article.Generally 15 year olds (which IS what the article claimed she was,when she had her first child!) aren't usually married and neither do they have jobs.Even the working poor get some government assistance,when they have children and I'm NOT talking about welfare,but programs such as WIC.And this was even MORE true,41 years ago.

This is so idiotic. The parent will be dead by the time the child is in high school. It is totally unfair to the children.

I'm 32, and I have 9 year old twins. Actually 9.5 if they tell you. . . I had them three weeks before my 23rd birthday. If I had to do it now, I'd cry.
I love having twins, but at the same time, I don't remember much about the first year of their lives, other than what I wrote down. It's about functioning, existing, surviving. . . but I wouldn't trade it. I just do *NOT* want to do it again.
Isn't it different being fifteen having a baby in the country then being fifteen and having one in the city? I've known a lot of people from the South who grew up in large young families and they didn't have any government assistance. At least out in the country, you can grow your own food and be more self sufficient.
So what's your proposal to this dilema? After all she did have her tubes tied and usually that is all that is required for effective birth control but things happen for a reason.
So why did you ask the welfare question? Many people have had kids early in life(she was 18per the news tonight) and have never received welfare. I think it was because of her race that you interjected that question. And no,,I don't know what you are, that's why I called you on it. To give you an opportunity to respond if you cared to to.
Since I have a Masters in teaching the severely mentally retarded,I,probably far better than you,know the risks,even when the mother is a "healthy", but OLD,to babies and carrying twins is even more dangerous to both mother and children.And this mother is not only 59,but overweight!
If you had the education level to understand and comprehend the possibilities,perhaps YOU wouldn't be flying off the handle so. :-)
Actually -no I don't fell foolish, why would I. As I said my news channel said she was 18 and her husband worked. He was also the father of all of the kids including the two to come and they are remarring. Doesn't sound like someone trying to get welfare. And she had a job.
Also, considering WIC, many states do not put restrictions on income for some WIC programs. So the lady in new york could be getting that.

My twins were born 54 days before my 31st birthday. Then we followed up with 4 more every two years for 8 years. I always said during that blur of a time, that I'd one day wonder how we did it, and sure enough, I do. I cannot imagine doing it at 45 or 59.
Actually I have a PHD in HCA and teach and work as a policy consultant on health care issues. But it is not a question of my comprehension but what you said. Mean what you say and say what you mean. What were you implying when you said something didn't add up?

Even if EVERYTHING is okay,it's still not going to be easy having twin 15 year olds at 74 and 75!

*** Agreed...even with very good insurance, the costs of an infant with birth defects is astronomical. Usually insurance companies do their very best to stiff the policyholder which is pretty sad.
