incredible story. have to say it sits with me alot better than the 57-year-old manhattanite who spent God-knows how much money on IVF to give birth to twins that aren't even related to her biologically.

Better her than me.

She doesn't top the one that had a baby at age 63, about ten years ago.

Harris had her first child when she was 15; 44 years will separate her first-born from the newborns. She was divorced years ago from the twins' father, 60-year-old Raymond Harris, a heavy equipment operator. She said they will remarry before the birth.

uh, why did they get divorced in the first place?

She was divorced years ago from the twins' father?

She's 59 and still menstruating?

She's had 5 children and didn't recognize the signs of pregnancy?

What Aleta St.James ( Curtis Sliwa's sister) paid,in order to have the twins,is none of your business! These babies were conceived with her husband's sperm. Are you opposed to people adopting and raising children, because they don't share the same DNA?

And personally,I find it ridiculous and sick, for people this old having babies. But that's just my opinion and unlike you,my judgment is based on the fact that they are harming the children...not on money.

And why were they still engaging in sexual intercourse, when they were divorced?

I'm not opposed to what Aleta St James did because of the money, but rather because it seemed enormously selfish. IVF creates many more embryoes than are actually implanted and survive. That means that several other children died in order for this woman to have her twins :( Also these children are not "hers" biologically. If Aleta had such a strong desire for children and didn't mind if they weren't her biological offspring, why not just adopt one or two of the millions of children in this world who need a loving home? I have no problem with adoption - I wish people would do it instead of IVF, which ends up creating many new lives only to snuff them out or donate them for "research" It is an incredibly selfish procedure.

What you need to know,is that those ages,in the OT,were not based on the same numerical system we use.It was a Middle Eastern literary device of the time.Everyone wrote that way about heroes/heroines;not just the Hebrews.

Probably because she wanted to carry her own children and they ARE hers;whether you are willing to agree with that or not.

Some people don't see adopted children as really being "their own" and those people shouldn't adopt!

If the petri dish embryos are frozen, are they dead? Is a non-embedded embryo "alive"/a baby?

Old parents,of any sex,do these children a disservice,IMO.It's a selfish act and one which serves ONLY those adults. These people are far too old to raise children and yes, those children will suffer.

I'm 32, and if I found out I was pregnant with twins I'd be concerned about having the energy and capability to cope.

Can't imagine how 'great grandma' must feel.

I'm older than you are,I'm old enough to be your mother, and believe me,having had a child 31 years ago,I know for a fact, that there's no way I could do it again;let alone raise twins, now.

I don't think this woman was out there trying to get pregnant. I wish there were a way to follow up on stories like these 10-20 years down the road. God had some reason for giving this woman these children. Can you see how many lives these babies have already touched and they are not even here yet! I hope her community and family rally around and help this great-grandmother raise these children. May God be with her on this journey!
