Hundreds of Palestinians threw rocks at Israeli cars and burned tyres today as demonstrators in the West Bank vented their outrage over the death of Yasser Arafat.

Israeli troops used rubber-coated metal bullets and fired tear gas to break up the rally of about 400 people at Beit Umar, a village near the West Bank town of Hebron, the army said.

Two border patrol officers were lightly wounded and seven Israeli cars were damaged, the army said. The violence also forced the army to close the road for about 90 minutes.

In Bethlehem, dozens of Palestinians heaved boulders and rocks at Israeli troops and tossed an explosive device at soldiers. Troops used rubber-coated metal bullets and tear gas to disperse the crowd.

The second demonstration occurred near Rachel’s Tomb, the traditional burial place of the biblical matriarch in the West Bank town of Bethlehem.

Rocks were also thrown at Israeli cars on a road that links Jerusalem and the West Bank.

I would condemn this as "typical," but it sounds like any major US city after winning and/or losing an NBA championship and/or playoff games.

French technology. An oxymoron if ever there was one.

The war continues until our side decides that the only way to win is if an muslim is walking shoot him.

Let's see--Israel tried about a thousand times to make peace with this putz. They even offered to give up like 97% of their land. He rejected nearly every peace proposal, and the deals he did accept, he immediately violated. Now he's dead. The Israelis didn't kill him, but the loonies are throwing rocks at them anyway. Oh, yeah--did I mention that Arafat stole several billion dollars earmarked for his "people" and allowed them to live in rank squalor while his wife lives the good life in Paris?

Sometimes when you've been conditioned to define your existance as struggle, it's tough to come to grips with the fact that they don't know what they are struggling for.

Arafat was offered everything he had demanded for a Palestinian State in 2000 by Israel, Dennis Ross, and Bill Clinton. The reality of ending the struggle by getting what they struggled for terrified Arafat. It would mean becoming self sufficient and having to govern the animals he cultivated for decades. It would mean opening the books and checks and balances.

Arafat and the Arab world want no part of that as a rule. Better to continue the struggle and enrich your circle handsomely with Swiss Bank Accounts. The profit margin in Arab style struggle is high.

Those riots are in regards to sports, usually in celebration? Are you saying the palistinians are jubilant?

Otherwise, I don't recall rioting when Reagan died this summer. And, despite Mrs. Edwards best jab, we didn't riot after our elections.
