Opportunity knocks for Rightalk....
That's why a guy like Belling will always be second-tier. Rush Limbaugh would never use that term.
I hate when people do these boycott threats. Whether its liberals or conversatives. The guy made an honest mistake and I'm sure is very sorry for it. Why can't people just leave it alone.
Using the term "wetback" would get almost anyone dismissed. It is offensive and stupid to use.
Idiotic thing to say. Conservatives need to hold themselves to a higher standard than the Frankens, Dowds and Mahers of the world.
......it's already beginning....
Wow, is that deja vu. Same thing happened to a radio host in ABQ a few years ago. For everyone here jumping on this host for being stupid... do you know the context?
The radio host in ABQ was repeating what a hispanic caller said, and the caller was using the term "wetback" to describe the mexican illegals.
Didn't matter, they fired the host.
I've personally have never used the term wetback. A lot of Texans do but most of the ones I have heard say "wetback" have been hispanic Texas natives that use it to slam the Mexicans or "joke" about them or with them.
We used to have to wait till 6 to hear the delayed playback from WGN Chicago.
Hanity is in drive time in Milwaukee . . .Woohoo !
I don't know anything about the protesters, but as a proud conservative let me say THANK YOU !
Sean Hannity said Mark Belling would be reinstated soon. Sean said so yesterday on his radio show. Sean spoke as though he had an inside track on Clear Channel doings
Political correctness strikes again. Wetback has a meaning, and it is valid when talking about border jumping illegal immigrants. I agree that if wetback is used as a broad generalization of all mexicans, it's just as bad as saying all white people are racist and all black people are criminals. But when calling illegal immigrants wetbacks, the usage is valid.
"wetback" is a slur?
Who'd a thunk it!
Now what can we call all those refugees from Canuckistan that flee north across the Detroit River?
I havent heard the station in question, but if its anything like my local station where Hannity and Reagan are by far the most liberal hosts, then I suspect that Clear Channel is beginning to realize that its just shooting itself in the foot by caving to liberals instead of backing him.
Are they angry because they actually crossed on dry land rather than swim the Rio Grande?
It has no negative implications other than that the person is an illegal alien.
Apparently any use of slang terms is offensive if used in conjunction with minorities.
Most interesting that Eisenhower's deportation operation was callled "Operation Wetback." Now the wetbacks have enough power to get a radio host pulled for using the same term. How tender and sensitive we have become.
The illegals call themselves "mojadas" so what's the big deal?
Another example of Liberals failing to learn from their previous mistakes.
Sixteen years ago, or so, Morton Downey Jr., another conservative talk show host in Sacramento, California, was removed from the air because of complaints by Liberals about a perceived "ethnic slur." The complaints were in reference to the on-air comment by the conservative host where he used the word "Chinaman".
Lead by then Mayor Robert Matsui (now Congressman Robert Matsui, a DemocRat, what else), a Japanese-American who was not by any stretch of the imagination a "Chinaman" or even Chinese or Chinese-American, the carefully orchestrated complaints lead to the removal of Morton Downey Jr. from KFBK's roster of talk show hosts, despite Downey's tearful on-air apologies.
Despite the fact that the "slur" was a common reference to persons of Chinese ancestry in the area (most people did not even know it was offensive to such persons) and that the usage was by no means intended as a perjorative, within a week Downey was history at KFBK.
HIs replacement was an unknown radio DJ named Rush Limbaugh... and the rest is history.
Offense, like beauty, lies in the eye of the beholder. It's just a word. Get over it or be stupid.
