President Bush yesterday moved aggressively to resurrect his plan to relax rules against illegal immigration, a move bound to anger conservatives just days after they helped re-elect him.
The president met privately in the Oval Office with Sen. John McCain to discuss jump-starting a stalled White House initiative that would grant legal status to millions of immigrants who broke the law to enter the United States.

The second sentance SHOULD read......"a move bound to anger TAXPAYERS"
Yeah right, and if I object to gay marriage, I'm a "homophobe". Be careful just whose tactics.
I strongly oppose illegal immigration and any further amnesties and I don't give a rat's ass who hears it.
It is astonishing that people who profess to be conservative or based in religious values cannot see that rewarding violation of international law and national sovereignty simply cannot be tolerated--or worse rewarded.
There is the Judeo-Christian mandate for the individual to treat others in a good, just, and kind manner. This is not the state's responsibility. The government exists to protect it's citizens and keep order in society.
This policy is tantamount to leaving your back door unlocked at night in the name of compassion.

"Reason"? "LOGIC"?
HAHA...it's about money. Greed, pure and simple.
Absolutely.
I meant to say: Be careful just whose tactics you adopt.
But, it'll no doubt fall on deaf ears anyway.
Everyone knew he was a RINO before the election.. Your AH! HAH!.. is lame.. maybe you would have been BETTER satisfied if Kerry was elected.. Pull yourself together.. Jeese.. if Bush was NOT supposed to get elected the democrats would have run a Lieberman or Gebharht or even a John McLaim(he can be bought you know).. Where do you think you are..."DU"...
In 2002 the Democrats had a majority, so Byrd had leverage he now doesn't.
The key problem with the Bush proposal is that it allows illegal aliens to apply to become guest workers without having to leave the country. Replace that aspect with Tom Tancredo's guest worker proposal that requires applications from the prospective workers' nations of origin, and we'll be moving toward a workable solution. Tancredo's proposal would provide incentive for illegals to leave and get in line to become legal, rather than rewarding them for jumping to the head of it.

It's useless to talk to these people.
Just a few days ago I was fasting and praying for Bush to win. Now, I HONESTLY wish Kerry had gotten it, because a Democrat wouldn't DARE throw the borders open like this... they are fabian gradualists whereas Bush now wants to betray us all in one fell swoop.
Remind me why the hell I am a Republican? What's the use?
You tell us.
Sure he (or they) would. sKerry is/was ready to hand our collective rear ends to the UN on a platter.
"Global test" as it were. He'd be holding the door to our borders open, much like Canada does.
Fact is, we can't count on our leadership to think our borders will be "protected," no matter what side of the isle they are on.
So much moronic, race-baiting open borders tripe, so little time. You apparently are a very sheltered person. You never met a Mexican until you were 21? Did you live in a closet?
To compare the now decades long Mexican invasion of America that has turned our country upside down, debased the sovereignty and integrity of our political process and is bankrupting our institutions across the country to America's past immigration history is beyond the pale.
Contrary to your assertions that much of the past European immigration was illegal and unwanted, nothing could be further from the truth. Back then our government actually controlled immigration and would periodically shut down or increase immigration as it suited our economic needs. Moreover assimilation was not an option, it was a requirement. If an immigrant refused to work, learn our language and adopt our customs they soon were sailing back to the old country and many did.
Contrast that to what we have today where Illegal Aliens don't need to learn English, dont need to assimilate and have across the board carte blanche access to our welfare system including subsidized schooling, housing, free medical care, food stamps etc etc. etc. all on the dime of the American Taxpayer. To say nothing of the staggering social costs of increased crime, lower wages and new public infrastructure expenses caused by this epic invasion.
Simply put, if our government refuses to protect our borders and sovereignty from foreign invasion as MANDATED in our Constitution Americas days as a Free and Independent Republic are numbered. This now chronic failure to control illegal immigration is not being lost on the world. No doubt the PRC and many a Muslim Terrorist are only too pleased to see that we as a nation are unable to control the flow of immigrants coming to our country.
No kidding. So... what on earth do we do? Try another "political human sacrifice" stunt (a la John & Ken)? Join Ranch Rescue and get accused of being terrorists? Vote Constitution Party and pray for the Repubs to implode? None of these seem likely to be effective. I'm at a loss.
I think the, uhm, "xeonphobes" howl, because that "ONE illegal act" was the breaking of federal immigration law (ASSUMING that they also did not drive, without insurance, and obtain employment). That would be, what, FOUR illegal acts?
So, it would appear that the, well, "xeonphobes" don't want people who knowingly and willingly broker every U.S. standing in their way to become legal citizens.
I'm not sure if that's Xenophobic, but as you are someone who "never met a Mexican until I was 21", I'm pretty sure that you don't know either.
Supreme court nominations, and that is the ONLY reason.
