Blue states buzz over secession
Washington Times ^ | 11/09/04 | Joseph Curl

Secession, which didn't work very well when it was tried once before, is suddenly red hot in the blue states. In certain precincts, anyway.
One popular map circulating on the Internet shows the 19 blue states won by Sen. John Kerry — Washington, Oregon, California, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Maryland and the Northeastern states — conjoined with Canada to form the "United States of Canada." The 31 red states carried by Mr. Bush are depicted as a separate nation dubbed "Jesusland." The idea isn't just a joke; one top Democrat says, "The segment of the country that pays for the federal government is now being governed by the people who don't pay for the federal government."
"Some would say, 'Oh, poor Alabama. It's cut off from the wealth infusion that it gets from New York and California,' " said Lawrence O'Donnell, a veteran Democratic insider and now senior political analyst at MSNBC. "But the more this political condition goes on at the presidential level of the red and blue states, the more you're testing the inclination of the blue states to say, 'So what?' "
Mr. O'Donnell raised the subject of secession on "The McLaughlin Group" during the weekend. "Ninety percent of the red states are welfare-client states of the federal government," said Mr. O'Donnell, who was an aide to Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan.

Gack!! I'm truly chagrined that my state of Wisconsin went blue by less than one percent in each of the last two elections. I'm further mortified that the county I resided in went blue by a good margin. I love my area of the country, but there are other counties in my region that went red. I could live in one of those. I'm still hoping that the returns from the absentee ballots will make Wisconsin a red state.

More peaceful solution.

Let them hold their breath until they are blue in the face.

Me too, when will we know? Lots of cheating went on again so I think we were really red. I think we should go over the ballots with a fine tooth comb and ferret out the ones that are not legal and have the cheaters prosecuted. Could we not legally do this? Maybe we could get volunteers to go over the ballots, especially in some of the areas that are known for cheating. I still think the Dems do something at the places where the votes are tallied up as they come in from the different precincts.

Assuming they could actually pull of this utterly laughable idea, how would they defend themselves? The Great Pink Fleet? The Army of Homeless Dopers? The UN? King Kofi the Kleptocrat? The Coalition of the Fabulous (to borrow a Coulterism)?

Wow! These folks' cheese has done sild off their collective cracker!....

I think they would be a security risk for us so either we would have to defend them too or we will have to defeat them to get them in line. Defeating these cowards would be easy. Better to do it early then later. Hopefully we can continue to defeat them at the ballot box but if not we might have to resort to other measures.

Witness insanity at work. Democrats need to take their meds.

The liberals always find "states rights" when it supports their cause: secession (2004), abortion, gay marriage.

The Dems don't have the backbone to pull this off.

They could go to Iraq and train the Iraqi police and leaders so our soldiers could come home quicker!

They could go to the countries with civil wars and try to help!

They could go to India and help the poor, and find out that the non-Christian moral value of that country, is that the poor should not be helped because they are paying for punishment for sins in prior lives.

I'm embarrassed to be a Blue Stater.

I feel your pain.....

However, some of the close states, I really wonder how "blue" they are. The only true blue "state" to me is still Massachusetts. Maybe we can have the Blue areas break up into city states, sorta like ancient Greece....

No. They can't have the west coast. It is too precious. They can get the hell out of my country if they don't like it, or they can live where we tell them to live.

Wrong. Don't go there. William Jennings Bryan tried that line in 1896 and it didn't work; and the South tried to claim that the North couldn't live without "king cotton" in the 1850s and THAT didn't work.

This has nothing whatsoever to do with free trade. Quite the contrary, it's due to free trade that "red state" suburbs like Warren Co., OH are BOOMING with computer and high tech firms that are rapidly catching Silicon Valley. Phoenix long ago caught up to most of the major tech centers.

As for secession, this is beyond stupid talk. The federalists tried this in 1814 and it cost them their party; and the Democrats tried this in 1860 and it cost them their party for more than 30 years. So let these idiots keep up this kind of talk.

The fact is, ALL of these major cities are completely dependent on the tax base and highly skilled work forces that live in the suburbs, and they would collapse in seconds without the red counties, and they know it. Why do you think big cities keep trying to annex the suburban areas?

All this will be moot if the federal government finally gets smart and demands identification for all federal elections nationwide. That needs to be one of the first priorities of this coming legislative year. I also hope that they will mandate touch screen voting with paper backup because corpses and phantom voters can't touch a screen.

It really irks me that my neighborhood and my ward are more conservative and Republican than any suburban area within at least 5-10 miles.

MANUFACTURING largely comes from the blue counties, AKA cities.

Only in unionized heavy industry like steel and steel fabrication.

Most manufacturing today is in the suburbs and in the heartland of the area stretching from Ohio and Indiana south to Alabama and Georgia (the I75 corridor). manufacturing in California is heaviyl concentrated in Riverside and San Berdoo Coutnies - both red.

The last manufacturers of any significance long ago left most northeast blue states like NY, Mass, RI, Conn., VT, etc. The only thing up there is paper mills in Maine, and those are in red counties.

I love this. Apparently someone on the ranks of the Loony Left read Atlas Shrugged, and passed it on without getting the point......lol...

One would repsectfully suggest that Larry O.D. (on crack probably) take a long hard look at the COUNTY map, and then put his miniscule little mental resources towards divining what percentage of Blue Area Elites, would actually vote to seced witht the Tax Using base of Areas Like Newark, and Camden NJ, LACounty, Detroit, Chicago, etc.....lol
