Handicapping '08

I know we have four more years of The Man in The White House, but I am curious as to what other Freepers think of possible 2008 candidates.

Here is my potential staring grid:

Rudy Giulliani (NY)
Sec. Colin Powell (NY)
Sen. Bill Frist (TN)
Gov. Jeb Bush (FL)
Sen. John McCain (AZ)
Gov. Mike Huckabee (AR)
Gov. Mitt Romney (MA)

In my opinion, Giulliani may be the force here. Although he will need someone to balance out the ticket and appeal to the base. My thinking would be Huckabee, a former Baptist minister who has dumped 110 pounds in a year and is also a "Man from Hope."

Thoughts?

McCain managed to alienate a good many people. Most of the time you can't figure him out...plus his wife suffered a stroke not long ago, (she seems to have recovered well, but still), and he's talked about ending his political career.

Governor Huckabee... I voted for him twice, he has made a good Governor. I disagree with him about the people he has been releasing from prison. The first one.. a rapist, in a short time after Huckabee let him out of prison he rapped and killed a woman in MO. He has released several killers serving life. No, due to this I wouldn't vote for him again!

Well, that would be serving the dems up an issue they've been waiting to crush in our face since Willie Horton...

Out of everyone mentioned -- he's the only one with the perfect resume' is young enough and has the personality.

Anyone doubting this should seek out and watch his portion of the all-day GOPAC meeting on cSPAN (was on most of the day today)he was in the after-lunch panel... Trust me: he has the "it" factor.

Rudy Giulliani (NY):

Sec. Colin Powell (NY):

Gov. Jeb Bush (FL):

Sen. John McCain (AZ):

there was a photo of 2 rhinos humping each other that I thought was more appropriate, but I don't want my posting privileges revoked. Anyways, you didn't mention King George Pataki (NY) so there wasn't a dire need to post that pic anyways.

Like "Adams" or "Roosevelt" I'm not sure anyone with the name "Bush" should be running for office of US President anytime in the next 100 years.

McCain just seems a little un-hinged to me... Albeit, he has a good reason to be a little twitchy, I don't want him in the oval office.

That would be a GREAT ticket! George Allen and Condi Rice for 2008!!!

Can't you just picture a debate between Condi and Hillerbeast?

Condi, unflappable, thrice over educated and experienced - and Hillerbeast screeching and frothing???

Lordy,That'd be great theater!

media coverage of McCain would take a sharp turn for the worse if he ever received the GOP nomination. You might even see a Democrat-type version of the Swiftboat Veterans for Truth surface in the campaign

This is true - as well, he went to Vietnam in the 80's - with SKerry - about the POW question - and there's some smoke there

He also has a temper problem...not that he's not entitled, after all he went thru' - but doesn't bode well for POTUS

Unless Condi was at the top of the ticket (which I dont think she'll be ready for in four years) that's a debate that won't ever happen...

Condi has no political experience. She would have to prove she has the right stuff in a tough senate race. IMO she would go the way of Elizabeth Dole.

I dont know about that... If she were to take a different position for the next four years and then serve in a hypothetical administration after that, I think she'd be TOTALLY viable. Look at all the clamer for Powel, who has never been elected as Dog Catcher. Or Wesly Clark. Same thing...

Except The VP Candidate wouldn't debate the Presidental candidate -- after watching George Allen he'd be able to take her apart -- and he has this happy way about him that she seriously lacks... I think an Allen/Rice ticket would bring over a lot of the democratic females who had a crush on Clinton (male Clinton)..he has the charisma without the sleeze.

No guts -- only a congressman... not enough "gravitas"

You must be thinking of someone else. Senator Rick Santorum has guts to spare. He took on the homosexual lobby in single combat, while other Republicans cowered in the shadows. Senator Santorum took stands against queer marriage over a year ago, before this week when it became suddenly acceptable.

Santorum under fire for comments on homosexuality

'I have a problem with homosexual acts'

By Sean Loughlin
CNN Washington Bureau

Tuesday, April 22, 2003 Posted: 9:10 PM EDT (0110 GMT)

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Top Democrats and gay rights advocates blasted comments by Sen. Rick Santorum in which he appeared to compare homosexuality to incest, bigamy and adultery, and they called on the Pennsylvania Republican to repudiate the remarks...

Let's see:

Jeb - Great guy but can't win due to American will not accept a 3rd Bush right now. Too much like "Royal Family."
Powell - Won't run. Period.
McCain - could run but may be too old. He's not conservative enough but perhaps with a conservative VP?
Rudy - Still too liberal. Besides, we need him to run for Senate in NY to beat Hitlary in 06.
Romney - Now that could be a winner. A Gov. has a better chance to win a national election due to Senators have problems. He's conservative enough to win the south and may have a shot in the upper eastern states like NH,MA,PA and ME.

Try these on for size:
Condi - Probably a better VP candidate.
Santorum - Very conservative but not sure if he's got national appeal.
JC Watts - If Hitlary puts Barack Osama on the ticket, look for Repubs to counter with Rice or Watts. Watts would be excellent candidate even on top of the ticket.

Longshots:
Kenny Guinn - Gov of Nevada.
Bill Owens - Gov of Colorado

A female is going to have to make VP before she makes the big job, A black male will have to make the top ticket before a female and a black female at that makes it (no matter how smart)... I think with her experience she would be a shue in for the VP position with possibility of President in 2016. Think strategically, not emotionally. Trust me Hillary will be cold and calculating and totally without emotion in this run and she'll have Bill and the Media at her back..... Once we make it past 2008 then the gates will be open for all sorts of possibilities since the Dems will be in total disaray... but for 2008 and the relection in 2012 unless we're smart we're in deep dooh.
