I know we have four more years of The Man in The White House, but I am curious as to what other Freepers think of possible 2008 candidates.
Here is my potential staring grid:
Rudy Giulliani (NY)
Sec. Colin Powell (NY)
Sen. Bill Frist (TN)
Gov. Jeb Bush (FL)
Sen. John McCain (AZ)
Gov. Mike Huckabee (AR)
Gov. Mitt Romney (MA)
In my opinion, Giulliani may be the force here. Although he will need someone to balance out the ticket and appeal to the base. My thinking would be Huckabee, a former Baptist minister who has dumped 110 pounds in a year and is also a "Man from Hope."
Thoughts?

peace ;o)
Romney was just hugely embarrassed in Mass. in his effort to elect Republicans to the state legislature. Not only did the challengers he supported all lose, three GOP incumbents also lost. It's unlikely that he will run for re-election in 2006 - and likely to be defeated (by AG Tom Reilly) if he does run. His future looks very dim.
Polite disagreement. Too liberal? Who exactly is that voting block going to secede to? The Rats?
I really hope to see Rudy on the Presidential ticket. The man says what he thinks, he is awash in charm, and he's a hero of 9-11. I think he could pull large parts of the South, especially Texas. Texans respond well to plainspoken men with guts and charm.

Zogby says it's Hillary's race to lose.
Where's Rick Santorum?
The fact that he didn't really help Coors get elected might be a downside for Owens.
Romney will never, never go against his principles. He's a man of great personal integrity, very attractive, very attractive family. His wife has MS, I think. Rides horses as therapy. But Romney isn't really a true blue conservative, plus he'd be running from MA, and I'd think MA would be anathema in '08.
Jeb has said he doesn't plan to run.
See my post at RE:#76.
Tom Ridge looks good on paper, but he doesnt exactly have "presidential personality"...
Romney is against abortion and I think...for gun owners' rights.
our most dangerous scenario - I have always thought the Perot was in bed with the dems - to spoil the vote. (I'd love to see what yummy gov't contracts he got in the ensuing years!)
$crew Zogby.... he's obviously a libera... it's OUR vote to lose if WE nominate the wrong person to run against her in 2008. we have to use our heads, not our hearts on this one.
I have always thought the Perot was in bed with the dems - to spoil the vote.
Funny... Ive always thought the same thing about Pat Buchannon.
No guts -- only a congressman... not enough "gravitas"
George Allen would eat Hillary's lunch in the debates and he'd do it with that wry smile he has that reminds me so much of Ronaldus Maximus
I'd think being from MA would be the kiss of death. VP maybe for Romney, but heck, what do I know. Gov.'s do well as candidates, and Romney is a dream candidate. He's no Kennedy and no Kerry. If, God forbid, he'd been in that car accident, he'd still be diving to get Mary Jo out, or drown trying. But he'd never fool around with a campaign aide or an intern. Period.
Rudy Giulliani....My pick on the list! I think he would run strong in the north and south. Very likable person and has a good head... maybe too liberal.
Governor Huckabee... I voted for him twice, he has made a good Governor. I disagree with him about the people he has been releasing from prison. The first one.. a rapist, in a short time after Huckabee let him out of prison he rapped and killed a woman in MO. He has released several killers serving life. No, due to this I wouldn't vote for him again!
Sen. John McCain .... NO WAY! He is a Democrat!
Gov. Jeb Bush .... agree, people would never vote for another Bush!
A North Easterner (even a Respublican) is too liberal for the South...
