I seem to recall from somewhere that, YES, some non-lawyers have been placed on the Federal Bench. I think the practice was much more common in the early days of the Union, when formal requirements for the practice of law were much less stringent.

This is not too hard to imagine given that something like 40 states DO NOT require all judges/magistrates/administrative law judges to be lawyers.

I know in my state -- New York -- judges at the magistrate/justice court level do not have to be attorneys, and I have often appeared in those courts before judges who are farmers, undertakers, hardware store owners, and retired state troopers.

On a serious note:

Isn't the impeached one disbarred? Isn't losing one's law license sort of a hinderance to getting appointed to any bench?

Clinton is barred from even pleading cases before the Supreme Court. Every time Clinton drives down the street in front of the Court building, the justuce stature pulls down her blindfold fold a little so she can keep an eye on him and guard her virtures.

Criminals do not need a peer on the Supreme Court. Etc., etc., etc.,..........

Your idea about Clinton is really too dumb to merit a reply but given that you include Judge Bork I will say this, that's even dumber. Bork is in his late 70's and it is beyond stupid to appoint anyone of that age when we can get someone who might be there 20 or 30 years.
