Face The Nation | Jus'now | Specter

Posted on 11/07/2004 7:42:21 AM PST by VaBthang4

Specter was asked twice if the President had a mandate. Specter hemmed and hawed with the first answer...then when pressed said the President does not have a mandate.

THIS GUY HAS GOT TO GO!!!!

What did they do, mate a giraffe with a horse to get that boy?

He gives the term "stately" a whole 'nother meaning.

Beat him in the PA primary?

We tried to do that and we lost. Remember?

Is he trying to pick a fight? I thought he was just trying to back off from putting his foot in it the first time.

Senator Specter, how many States did President Bush win last week?

As a Senator, you don't consider that a mandate? Did you flunk math in school?

Sideline him. It's his last term and I don't need this guy getting applause at liberal cocktail parties for his "courageous" stands.

It's to the point where it would be better off if this loser switched parties.

Brought to us by the same idiotic CLOWN that gave us the "Magic Bullet" theory in the Warren Report fairy tale.

You're right, this Maggot has to go.

The Republican Party (Bush, Santorum, etc.) supported Specter. They actively campaigned for the man.

No, a small group of underfunded conservatives tried, and narrowly lost. In retrospect, I wonder whether those who supported Specter wish they'd voted for principle instead?

Yeah, but old Arlen sure always acted like Bubba's 42% and 48% were as good as 99%.

Arlen must have decided this is going to be his last term. If the rats force recounting I definitely want his "win" scrutinized.

Susan Collins is using the Dem talking point "lame duck session."

She also (:Face the Nation" this morning) used the "President must reach out across the isle -

every time I hear that phrase I want to puke. It's the other side that needs to reach out! THEY lost - or am I missing something?

Collins - my senator - speaks a good conservative lingo when she's up here talking to 'us.' . Wish I had her speech to us at the Maine Republican Convention this year...Olympia's too.

Then they go back to DC and talk out the other side...

As to Frist - we gotta slam him with hard copy letters - they are given more credence than emails - about stiffening his spine! We have to roll back that ridiculous "60" vote rule. Is it even Constitutional? What happened to "Majority Rule?"

You can bet your bippy that if the dims ever get even a 1 vote majority, that "60" rule will be rescinded poste haste.

Specter is always out for himself. He's similar to Clinton in that he's a liberal, but he'll side with conservatives if it's necessary for his political survival.

Just as Clinton signed welfare reform and the Defense of Marriage Act, Specter supported Clarence Thomas to stave off a potentially successful 1992 GOP primary challenge from the right.

Specter, like Clinton, has an enormous ego and loves media attention. He especially loves the fawning media attention that generally is given to GOP liberals who rebel against the party's conservatism. He got some negative media coverage for a couple of years after his support for Thomas, so he'd like to avoid that if possible.

So he's in a tight spot, and he's also put us in a tight spot. He can screw us by either switching to the Rat party or by opposing our judicial nominees. As chairman of Judiciary, he could try to stop their nominations on the spot. But if he switches parties he can be dumped from the committee entirely and he certainly won't get the chairmanship. On the other hand, he could be given the chairmanship with a warning that he must be on good behavior to keep it.

So there's some calculating to do by both sides.

I repeat, we are lucky to have Collins and Snowe. They occupy seats that would otherwise be filled by outright liberal communists.

We're working on it.

I called half the Republican senators Thursday and Friday.

I'm calling the other half Monday and Tuesday!

Specter is the one without a mandate, I'm afraid. And soon he'll be without a job.

You are correct. Half a loaf is better than none, and the RINOs have been helpful in many situations. This blanket castigation is unwarrented. Specter has supported GW before, when it counted, and holding him back from this post would likely cause more problems than it would solve, since it would lose us the support of other RINO senators. We have a 5 vote lead, not a 15 vote lead. We need them all.

There is a chance the White House is in on this.

If Specter kicks Bush in the teeth right after the election, the Left will be less suspicious of the court nominees he sheperds through his committee.

I am coming more and more into agreement that Toomey should have been the candidate.

All he had to do is win the primary, and then win against a socialist POS in the Philadelphia area that went 4 to 1 for Kerry. Maybe you could have moved up here from Texas and voted for Toomey.

It is most likely that people would be sitting around this board lamenting that Hoeffle is Pa's new senator.
