Garrison Keelihor On NPR, Just Likened Us To Witches! Why Do We Fund NPR?

Keelihor's program on NPR, Prairie Home Companion, is often clever and amusing. But, he has been a scumbag Kerry advocate for some time now. He, like so many of the ultra-left wingers believe that snide and clever glibness is all that is required to have leftie "feelings" wim.

He just read a piece he claimed was by Thomas Jefferson in which Jefferson indicates that the influence of witches will pass, suggesting I guess, that the control of Republican good guys will also pass. There also was some pointed comments about born again Christians and the negative influences of religion.

As I said, I find this program often clever and amusing with good music. I assume, in fact, that child molester Yarrow and Peter, Paul and Mary will be on frequently in the future. But, I don't like criticsm, especially, silly, factually inaccurate criticism when I'm paying for it.

We must convince our Congressmen in the 109th that there is no reason to have public money spent on PBS, NPR or the NEA. Why do we loot funds from tax payers to pay to have these public agencies insult and work against public interest and culture? Now, the unions may loot cash from the dues of their members to espouse left wing issues. We, as taxpayers, shouldn't have to be brought down to the level of union members. Let's work to stop public funding of NPR, PBS and the NEA!!

No, he is always smug and boring.

It was clever and amusing 30 years ago, seldom since...

He has written pieces about Bush lately that make Michael Moore sound like a freeper...

A girl I used to date roped me in to seeing him live. He's not funny. Clever, sometimes but I was bored 20 minutes in. Plus his nose hairs whistle when he breathes which drives me batty. Go back to your fake town Garrison.

This is sad. I used to love this guy. I have not heard him in years. When did he become a hack?

I agree. I never listened to it before I realized what a dumnass liberal he was.

"Why do we fund NPR?"

Outstanding question. The plug definitely needs to be pulled.

We don't need BOTH of the NEA's: National Education Association, and the National Endowment for the Arts

There was a letter allegedly from Elizabeth Edwards to the DUmmies in DUmmieland that contained the same quote. I'd go back to DU to link it up, but I've just showered.

I don't care if they take my side on issues, I don't like tax dollars going for stupid things, and the entire Public TV/Radion is just plain stupid. It never made sense and now that we can get a trillion channels via satellite or cable it makes even less sense.

They don't get much funding anymore, but it still annoys me. When Garrison Keiler sticks to poking fun at modern pretensions, he can be very funny. I still remember a great sketch making fun of "artists" who are media personalities or flatterers of rich donors, but actually produce next to nothing - and still get press coverage.

But when he gets into politics, he stinks (and talk about modern pretensions...they're coming out of his ears when he does this stuff).

Gotta give the guy credit- he can't sing and does little more than recycle the same dull stories for decades on a show most people don't even realize exists, but he's made millions. He and Bill Moyer make pretty good jack from Public Broadcasting considering they have a tiny audience of aging lefties and enfeebled shut-ins unable to change the station.

He became a lost cause when he moved to New York. He has always been condescending and scornful of his roots. At first, his humor seemed to be based upon love, now it's just scorn.

Welcome to a new age of lost innocence. The excesses of the liberal elite will never be blithely ignored as in the past. Our awakening to the utter cruelty and insufferable intolerance of traditional American values will have us see these fellow citizens as the mortal enemies they have always been. We are at war as a nation and our Enemy is within. Say goodnight Garrison.

We, too, are often Garrison fans for the music, but we are also getting sick of NPR politics. It seems so much worse after 11/2, probably because they are just so bitter and clueless. But I do like the range of NPR's non-political stories.

Why can't we have a conservative news show like NPR? I like talk shows, but news is good too (especially when one is commuting).

I would either like to see such liberal funding cut or support funding for a conservative show. (Then, again, the tax-cut side of me needs no new funding.) NPR just had a huge windfall from some rich person's will...millions...they shouldn't need government funding.

Do you thing private donors would support a conservative news program? Rush did it for talk shows; who will do it for conservative news shows?

I saw that O'Reilly program, as well. He struck me as a pompous ass...he'd be right at home here in New England.
