Alan Keyes continues to be a man of principle. He's done something very few Republicans have had the courage to do. Here's his first interview.
I think you nailed it to the fence post......

I heard Obama's victory speech and he sounded like he was oppressed and now is finally free. The guy attended and graduated from one of the most expensive, private, fully integrated schools in Hawaii. He hardly was part of the masses.
Alan Keyes would be the best addition to the US Senate. He has to find a state that will easily elect him. He could get so much done in Washington.
In two years he should target a state that has a retiring conservative and that'll do it. Maybe do the House first before another attempt at the Senate. We need him.
Did anyone see his recent letter supporting Life Dynamics?
Which view is now going to have another seat in the Senate, because of the bull-in-a-china-shop efforts of a lousy politician? That's the reality of the situation. Keyes can be right on abortion all the live long day, but he won't be doing it in the Senate.
You are never going to staunch the flow of blood by adopting the Keyes formula...
He should have stayed home and let the IL Republicans stew in their own juices.
They and he would be better off today if he had.
No disagreement from me.
I disagree. He did good, even though he "didn't get himself elected." He stood for what is right. He held the torch. He carried the light forward. He represented truth, and right, and what is good. Inch by inch, year by year.
Very few people support God and morality with the passion it and He deserve.
Just as in ONE generation of total-gay relationships, children and families would disappear, so in ONE generation if people aren't courageous enough to carry the truth forward, society would be gone. It's only taken since the 60s to get where we are today, because we didn't have enough people like Alan Keyes combining the true God and true Truth with our politics.
He lost, let it go.
You know, now that I think about it - he's too "hot" for the current media - especially television.
It's like Howard Dean's post Iowa caucus rally every night.
YeaaaaaaaH!!!
I don't care how anti-abortion he is. Stick to the pulpit and the newspaper columns. As a candidate, he is the worst.
Keyes couldn't have won running against the pretty boy, RAT plantation house slave who's being openly prepared by the mediacracy and the RAT establishment for future US Presidency, and there ain't nothing we can do about it. At the very least, the Stupid Party including most of us here could stop cowering in the dark frightened at the possibility of being accused of the heinous crime of "RACISM" should we issue a word of criticism. Heck, come to think of it, nowadays we're afraid to criticize B.B. King for his artistic mediocrity of the past 30 years.
Well, the way I look at it is Keyes was bringing to light through his speeches the horrors of killing babies and other things that people need to be aware of.
I didn't agree with him on reparations, but when weighed in the balances stopping the baby killing is so much more important than getting upset about reparations.
So, even though he lost (and could any Repub. have won?), Keyes did at least speak up on some issues that others are afraid to speak on. And for that I will always admire him and be grateful.
A DUer (I say DUer and not DUmmie because the guy, based on this and other posts, actually appears to have a brain) theorizes that the Keyes candidacy was a recon mission run by the IL GOP, and that he was never remotely expected to win. He goes on to say that he expects a similar scouting expedition against Governor Blagojevich in 2006, and a serious challenge to Dick Durbin in '08. He believes Illinois is a ripe for the plucking by our side. Check it out here.
You call Alan Keyes a "grandstander." What does that mean? Someone who stands in the grandstands and watches rather than be out actually doing and performing? That's not him.
Perhaps you meant someone who makes lots of noise from the grandstands, annoying others, but really having no significance? That's not him. He SHOUTS from every platform he can to make people aware it is wrong to do things God doesn't want us to do, such as killing our helpless American citizens in the wombs, or being dishonest in politics. This IS significant by God's definition, if not by yours.
Hey you brought up a valid question?
How did the Republican candidate do 6 years ago in the state of choas (oh i mean illinois)
Anyone have that stat handy?
That says quite a bit about you.
If/when that turns out to be true, I hope the (R)'s bashing Keyes today will have the decency to send him belated thank you notes. :-)
As I understand it, he initially said no, mostly due to what people like you and me would say, not to mention what he said about Hillary re NY, which was the classic carpetbagger situation. Where Hillary pushed aside the NY Dems, Keyes was practically dragged into the race by the IL GOP after Ryan resigned in the 11th hour.
He may have run a dreadful campaign but, the facts say he's no carpetbagger.
To say he "utterly failed" shows alot of disrespect for the 1,371,882 votes he receive. To have 1.3 MILLION people stand with you on the side against evil and FOR righteousness, is no failure.
