Edwards Positions Himself for 2008
AP ^ | Nov. 5, 2004 | Liz Sidotti

Democrat John Edwards lost the election for the vice presidency this week and will lose his Senate seat in January. But he's hardly going away. He's positioned himself for a full-out presidential run in 2008, a campaign that in a way he's already begun.

For now, though, politics is on hold. His wife, Elizabeth, was diagnosed with breast cancer this week just after Democrat John Kerry and running mate Edwards conceded the race to President Bush.

"Together, our family will beat this," Edwards said on Thursday in a statement that made clear her treatment would be the focus of his immediate future.

Longer range, the North Carolina senator with the good looks, Southern charm, rags-to-riches biography and "tomorrow can be better than today" pitch is in the top rank of candidates expected to compete for the White House in four years.

Scary - edwards08.com is already registered to somebody in N. Carolina. I read an article saying that Edwards is the biggest egomaniac to ever run for Pres - that in fact his only goal appeared to be the veep nomination & self promotion.

Leader?? What the hell has Edwards ever led except a double life????? One term in the Senate and he couldn't even get elected again! Bye Bye Silky Pony! Bye Bye Breck Girl!

Biographer Douglas Brinkley predicts Kerry will run in '08.

UIOLI predicts Hillary will run with Bill Richardson as running mate. You read it here first.

Look out: by 2008, he'll have four more years of inexperience under his belt.

His opponents will only need one commercial to take care of him. Imagine a sixty-second compilation of his moves and expressions on election night when he went out to the "victory" party and gave the little statement. I stared at him with mouth open. WHAT A DORK.

I'm going to play Devil's Advocate to North Carolinians. Would you guys PLEASE elect him to something? Perhaps then he'll stay out of the courtroom, and quit running our fine Doctors into the poorhouse, and out of practice.

Of course, elect him dogcatcher or something, where he can't do any damage.

I give it 90 days, and nobody will even remember who the hell John Edwards was.

2008: "John Edwards? Spirit Medium. Had a TV show a couple of years ago."

Put "2008" on the side of that Ambulance and it would be perfect

His "concession" speech about keeping the fight going was wrong, wrong, wrong. Wrong message, wrong tone. He's positioning myself for 2008 alright--and probably is going to use his wife's illness as a springboard. (If I were her doctor, I would be scared to treat her for fear of a malpractice suit from him.)

He's proven that he's glib, shallow, egocentric--yeah, a perfect Democrat--but he's not liberal enough for the primary voters and, like other already-run's, doesn't go down any better the second-time round.

Look to Hillary to win the nomination and lose an election. Fear that Bayh might win a primary--because somebody like him, given the world of 2004, could be a national winning candidate in 2008.

He'll take McAwful's job, and then run for President at some point.

With respect to his wife, I pray for her recovery.

In four years, the US will be 'different' than it is now.

Whether the voting public will vote for someone who campaigned on fabrications and flat-out lies is the issue.

Also, if the public remembers this simple fact. The reason for the shortage of flu shots is because of the large lawsuit against US pharmaceutical companies forcing them to abandon production (they were losing money on production, but kept going because of the need, until the lawsuit).

The lawyer who handled filing and succeeding in getting a massive settlement in the lawsuit?

JOHN EDWARDS.

Edwards Positions Himself for 2008

One would think he would position himself by his wife's bedside, and plant himself there with no talk of politics, until she is well again.

But that would be assuming he was a good man.
