I am thinking of running for office (Big Vanity with lights)
Myself ^ | November 4 | Moi

Posted on 11/04/2004 3:34:38 PM PST by MissouriConservative

While I was casting my vote here in Kansas City, I looked at my state representative race for the Missouri House...and noticed that only one person was on the ballot and it was a democrat to boot. No Republican was running....and I was ashamed.

After talking with my lovely Mrs. MissouriConservative, I have reached a decision....I am going to run for the 44th district here in Missouri in 2006.

I know there are a few Freepers here in KC and would love to have them help in way they can. I am going to join a lot of local Republican clubs and begin networking. I not only need the physical help, but a lot of prayers and spiritual guidance. We cannot let a democrat run unopposed, no matter how democratic the district may be.

I am currently studying my opponent to be, and she has a lot of weaknesses....voting for medical pot usage, still trying to get Missouri to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment, etc.

This district is changing, albeit slowly, and more people are moving to the suburbs and voting is slowly trending towards conservatives.

Whatcha all think?

I voted in my District here in Massachusetts on Tuesday, and the only Republican on the entire ballot was the Bush/Cheney ticket for President.

Other than the one vote for the Prez, I turned in an empty ballot.

The big question is whether your job would allow you to serve. If I had a job that allowed me to serve in a state legislature, I'd run someday. Unfortunately, engineering just doesn't allow me that luxury. No company wants an engineer who can't be at work very much during the legislative session. If your job would allow you to do this, I think it's great.

"We cannot let a democrat run unopposed, no matter how democratic the district may be."

I have to agree.

Any advice for Missouri Conservative who is contemplating a run at the Mo HofR?

Mention in every sentence the fact that you were in Vietnam.

As the campaign draws to a close, emphasize in every public appearance the fact that your opponent's daughter is a lesbian.

Go for it. There should never only be one name on the ballot. Post another thread about 3 months before the '06 election and alot of people will give you donations, and people in your area will probabley help. Who can say? You just might get lucky and win. It never hurts to try.

By all means! run!

If you feel confident, by all means run! And, this is when you have to plan it. It's expensive, but worth it. start taling to people and see if you can generate some political donations. I've done it before on a Municipal level and won.

You bet!! Go for it. All that is needed is common sense and a passion for doing what is right, just, and fair. My friend was at the voting booth and saw only democrats for Sheriff and Jackson County prosecutor so he wrote in Idi Amin for sheriff and me his good friend for prosecutor. So in this election "W" got 59 million and I got one vote too!

Again, if you have the money to start out with, and if you have a flexible job, or a boss who is a Republican, then deffinitly give it a shot.

Top issues this year in Missouri and my views

1. Medical malpractice reform - Tort reform is needed in Missouri badly. More doctors are moving out of state than are coming into it. Medical liability reform needs to cap jury awards.

2. Gay marriage - I worked hard to get the ban on same sex marriage passed, and it did. I was a youth pastor, so my views are very simple on this issue.

3. Gambling - There has been a trend to erase the loss limit that we have on riverboats here in KC...I am against erasing these limits beyond the $500.00 limit now in place.

4. KC School District - There has been some legislation that tried to limit who can be considered a drop out. This would help with accreditation...I am against this...I want transparency and honesty. If the district can't honestly earn accreditation, then they don't deserve it and need to work harder educating instead of covering their own behinds.

5. Liquor sales on Sunday - I don't believe in liquor sales on Sunday. There is a trend to lower the percentage limit on food sold so a business can sell liquor on Sunday. Currently that limit is 50% of their business must be food related, they want to lower that to 30%...I am against this issue.

6. Small percentage wish Missouri to legalize pot for medical purposes. I am against any legalization of pot for any purpose.

This is a small list of issues currently going on. I am a very conservative Republican, so conservative on some issues that I surprise myself sometimes. I am a father of two beautiful daughters and the husband of a very lovely conservative lady. I am a former youth pastor. Currently I am in the tech industry and 6 months from finishing my Masters degree.

What do you all think?....I don't know too many other KC area freepers, but I'm hoping you do.

Sounds good, but prepare to have your life completely turned inside out by mudslingers. Make sure you don't have any skeletons you don't mind your family & friends knowing about.

Check your FreepMail.

This has been a winning issue for Democrats and Republicans alike. Witness Maryland Gov. Ehrlich.

Best of luck in your run. Please keep us updated.

If you are a member in 2006 or whenever you do decide to go for it - and you need help financially - I'd be willing to help out - Seems these days one needs to have millions in order to get any where when running for an office

Good Luck -
