A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

No Gloating, Please!
by JohnHuang2
I admit it's tempting, deliciously tempting, especially after a grueling campaign as this, but I won't. Instead, I'm going to be magnanimous. In other words, if you're looking for gloating, you're looking in the wrong place. From published reports, I gather the White House has adopted a similar No-Gloat approach, and I think that's a good thing. Some of you might not agree -- what's wrong with a little gloating? -- but I think we've got to be bigger than that. In short, stay above-the-fray.
That's why you won't hear a peep from me about Bush's victory Tuesday, not a word on how Bush successfully beat back challenger John Kerry. That's according to a poll of over 110 million registered voters conducted Tuesday. The Democrats' inability to unseat the President -- despite having poured unprecedented amounts of money and manpower in their hopeless effort to topple the wartime leader -- must be quite a bitter pill to swallow. But, as I said, nary a word about it from me.
Here's what else my lips are sealed -- tightly sealed -- about: President Bush's very long coattails. On Tuesday, Republicans expanded their majority in Congress to 233 House seats, keeping the chamber in GOP hands for the sixth straight election. As for the Senate, more good news (which I refuse to mention). The GOP swept all five Democrat Southern seats -- South Carolina, North Carolina, Louisiana, Florida, and Georgia, crippling Democrats for years to come, but I'm not gonna gloat about that either.
I suppose I could gloat about the stunning Senate upset in South Dakota (but I won't). Not since Barry Goldwater's famed 1952 victory over Ernest McFarland had a Senate leader been toppled. Tom Daschle got his walking papers Tuesday, losing his bid for a fourth term to former GOP Congressman John Thune, but -- again -- you won't hear me gloat about it, or even mention it once. My lips are totally sealed.
Look at it this way: If I were gloating, wouldn't I mention how Bush is the first President in 16 years to win a majority of the popular vote? Wouldn't I be pointing out that Bush got nearly 4 million more votes than Kerry nation-wide? Clinton never got a majority of the popular vote, garnering just 43% in '92 and 49% in '96. Indeed, Bush got more votes than Clinton ever dreamed of getting. Of course I haven't mentioned any of this, nor will I; this is no time to gloat.
Oh, remember the torrent of media stories that angry voters in Florida, bent on revenge for 2000, were champing at the bit to even the score in 2004? Needless to say, there was little evidence of it Tuesday, much to media chagrin -- but I'm not gonna mention that either.
And if you thought I'd gloat about how wrong exit polling was Tuesday, you're mistaken. In fact, I won't even mention how an early batch had Bush losing in Florida, Ohio, North Carolina, you name it. I haven't gloated to date, and I'm not about to start now.
Oh, one more thing...
Congratulations, Mr. President!!! ;-)
And God bless the United States of America.
Anyway, that's...
My two cents

Once you are in the month that you joined FR you will need to click on the number in the calendar and then an add item screen will come up. 3) In the next box enter your name in the "Calendar Text" field and then click on submit. 4) If any of the screens fail to load simply click on refresh in your browser and that will usually fix it. 5) If all else fails or simply if you want me to do this for you send me a FReepmail and I will gladly do it for you. ~Mixer

Bet there will be lots of red at the inauguration balls.
To: Aquamarine
That was exactly my thought. Also, I know my husband had been working on him as well. And my huband can make me look like a left winger at times!!!

LOL, my husbands the same way. Aren't we lucky? :)
To: Aquamarine; Pippin
There will probably be more red this time than last time, because Mrs. Bush wore red in 2001. So she probably won't again this time.
Red was only "permitted" at the non-official balls.

VERY lucky!
We both know things would be a bit easieer if I was working again, but he also likes the idea I am here when the school bus arrives everyday, and homework is supervised, etc.

Have been reading some of the threads today. Aren't they just great? So much good news...and it seems to bringing out such good comments from the posters.
To: The Mayor
Is he? I thought he was just in a coma.

Keeping a good home and raising your child is the most important job you could ever have. The left has warped the woman's role in life preaching that we shouldn't bake cookies and behave like men. The worst part is that so many women have bought into that peer pressure.
Kudo's to you for being a woman strong enough to do the best thing for your family. I'm lucky that I can work at home and keep a good home.

I had worked from home from the time I found out I was pregnant until just after we decided to put our house on the market and move (then all my clients disappeared).
I was self-employed for so long, that I don't know easy it would be to go back to the "rat race" or if I even want to do so.
I would love to find something I could do from home, or at least be able to work around my husband and daughter's hours. Of course those things leave me with very limited choices in a rural area, that is among the poorest counties in the state.
Please don't think I'm complaining, because I'm not. I would just like to bring in some money again, if for nothing else than some extras......like the FReeper Inaurgural Ball or to go to CPAC again. LOL!!! (some priorities, I've got, don't I?)

His death still doesn't seem to be official.
Do hope the Prez will put the right men in the right office. Preferably strong conservatives.
To: Gabz
Hopefully you'll find something to do from home to bring in some extra income to do all the exciting things in life. If not the credit cards can become too big a temptation.

God Bless Our Military
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Below are names of some of our FReepers' loved ones who are serving our country. If you have someone you would like to add, please address a post to Billie; Mama_Bear; Dutchess; Aquamarine and we will add their name to this list. As we pray for them, we pray also for all our nation's leaders, and military personnel, and their families and friends. May God hold them close to His heart.
~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~
We ask Lord, that You guide the leaders of our great country in their hour of decision. The burden that has been placed on their shoulders is overwhelming. We ask that with Your infinite wisdom You guide them gently to the right decisions.
Please give us the strength, Lord, to get through each difficult and devastating day that faces each of us and our country. Protect and guide our Military that are now being called to duty, strengthen them in their trials and temptations; give them courage to face the perils which beset them; and grant them a sense of your abiding presence wherever they may be; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
