This is the saddest quote I may have ever read (election-related):
Posted on 11/03/2004 7:43:08 AM PST by AuburnJenn
"It's definitely the war," said Eliana Deutsch, 20, of San Diego, explaining why she came out. "People see these soldiers who are 18 and don't have an education, and they're over there dying. It's really sad that that (the military) is their best option."
This makes me irate. What a spoiled brat. Most of our service men are highly educated (ever heard of West Point?) I had several close friends in college who CHOSE to join the military. I think it is an intelligent, BRAVE choice to join the service. I am just lost for words right now. What nerve....and she is not much younger than me. Sickening.

Enlisted service men and women may only have a High School Diploma when they enter service, but all are provided technical training that exceeds and rivals community colleges and technical schools. Don't forget about the GI Bill and active duty men and women who have up to 100% of their college tuition paid for when they attend college courses while on active duty.
It's also mandatory for all Soldiers, Sailors, Airman, and Marines to continue their education whether it is military or civilian in order to receive promotion.

MIlitary recruits are more highly educated AND more intelligent than the national averages.
It is truly sad that college at mommy and daddy's expense is the only option that some people have. For the most part is seems to only make them bigger losers.
Yes, it is truly sad

Wenches and cowards like this person do not even have the slightest conception of reality. They float through life in a haze of deception and lies.

He choose to be a US Air Force pilot and fight for your freedoms. Get a clue girl.

How does one get from U of T (Austin?) to the military? Is that legal? I found a loophole! LOL! (Are you an Aggie, by any chance?)

"Most of the military only has a HS diploma or GED....only the officers need a college edumacation."
I am afraid you are mistaken. 98% or more have a HS diploma. Very few GEDs get in anymore, and the ones that do have to score in the highest category on the ASVAB. Plus the Military encourages its' people to pursue secondary education by having classes on post, with professors that are willing to work around military duty, and paying up to 90% of the tuition.
When I was a Platoon Sergeant it was my goal, as with every other PLT SGT I knew to get as many soldiers enrolled in College as possible. It benefits both the Soldier and the Army. And an NCO that does not get some college will seriously hamper his chances of making Senior NCO (SFC, 1SG, SGM). I don't have the stats in front of me, but I would bet close to 50% of SFC and above have at least an Associates.
Todays military is highly edumikated ;-) and very intelligent.

I don't see why y'all are so upset with this lady. After all, "everybody knows" (ever notice how many leftist arguments start this way?) that the military is made up solely and exclusively of Neanderthal mutants who run around smashing things and screaming "Me fight! Me fight good!". I mean, come on. The military votes overwhelmingly Republican, so obviously they aren't educated (leftist speak for "agrees with me").
Anyone still surprised or stunned by leftist arrogance and condescension, especially from an "educated" 20 year old, really needs to listen more closely to what these folks are saying. It's not only NOT uncommon, it's in fact the norm. It's not even disgusting any more. Now the behavior, like the ideology, is simply laughable.

"Really? Not that I doubt your word, but I was told otherwise."
I just spoke with an Army recruiter...times have changed. Now you MUST have either a high school diploma or GED to be considered for the Army. Sorry, ma'am. Thanks for calling me on it. Now I know, too. GOD BLESS AMERICA.

I have a 1320 SAT. I'm an enlisted guy in the USN. That dim lib can kiss my ass. That says it all!
Whenever I meet servicemen or see them interviewed on the news, I am struck by their superior intelligence and focus and their refined manners. It is very annoying when mushy brained lefties cry croccodile tears for the (in their view) misguided "kids". I have no doubt that, like you, most of these "kids" could kick their asses in the classroom as well as in every other way.

Not only that .. in Oliver North's book, "War Stories", he gives a very extended description of the qualifications for the American soldier. It's breathtaking. By the time I finished reading it, I was convinced I was not qualified to polish their boots. My sadness is that some Americans do not fully appreciate what the loss of one of these highly trained young men means to America.
Although some soldiers may choose the NG in order to further their education .. they too are highly trained - no matter what the job. But only those who are in COMBAT get extreme training and are highly skilled; knowing chemistry and other necessary things.
This woman's opinion is based on IGNORANCE! I blame the media and the school system for this opinion.

I have to say that this election was about the war in Iraq for me too. We had to return a CIC that had the respect of our troops; not a man that has betrayed them in the past and would do it again.

I am sitting across from an old ugly retired Infantry MSG. He does have a BS (fits him) that he got while on AD and is currently working on his Masters. An educated grunt..........scary.
