the 10 min online film directed by Theo van Gogh

http://www.ifilm.com/ifilmdetail/2655656
(Click on Submission)

(the film SUBMISSION is a ten-minute film that Theo van Gogh made).

Synopsis -

Dutch filmmaker Theo van Gogh (yes, that van Gogh) was assassinated November 2, 2004, by a 26-year-old extremist Muslim of Dutch-Moroccan descent. The current theory is that he was taken down for his critical look at the treatment of Muslim women. It's not a documentary, but a metaphorical look at the harsh realities of their lives. (In English with Dutch subtitles.)What Does "Sacrilege" Mean in a Free Society? One of our Muslim viewers shared his opinion on this film: "We, the Muslims, aren't outraged by the supposed 'message' of the film, but by the disrespect of the Holy Quran, which has hurt us so much. ...did they have to write the verses of Quran on the nude body of a female? ...Muslims cannot even touch the holy Quran, let alone read it, without proper ablution...
One has to be properly dressed, and treat [it] with utmost respect.

It cannot be placed on the ground. If the holy book is old and worn out it cannot be just dumped into the bin. ...I want to ask you, does freedom of _expression mean hurting people's feelings? If yes, then Ayan and Gogh have hurt the feelings of a billion people around the world."From a Dutch citizen living in the U.S.:"Submission is about
domestic abuse of women in Muslim households. The film makes it very clear that the Koran does not promote that kind of abuse. ...I can only think of the millions of women suffering verbal and physical abuse in the name of a religion whose origins (the Koran) did not set out to hurt them."

TULAREMIA, PNEUMONIC - USA (NEW YORK CITY) (04) International Society for Infectious Diseases http://www.isid.org Date: Mon 15 Nov 2004 From: Sally Slavinski sslavins@health.nyc.gov This is in response to the question regarding the route of exposure for the New York City (NYC) resident with tularemia. Interviews with the patient suggest mechanical transmission likely occurred through indirect contact with infected wild rabbits on Staten Island. The patient's 2 dogs visit a local park daily. One dog captured a wild rabbit and subsequently licked the patient on the face upon returning home. The events occurred approximately 7 to 10 days prior to the onset of illness, which is consistent with the incubation period for tularemia. The patient never visited the park or had direct contact with rabbits or rodents, and denied having any tick or insect bites. The patient suffered from severe acne and complained of having a swollen submandibular lymph node a few days prior to her onset of illness. The patient's 2 dogs had positive antibody titers for tularemia, and several rabbits collected from the park were positive by direct fluorescent antibody testing (DFA). All animal testing was graciously done by our colleagues at the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in Ft. Collins, CO. -- Sally Slavinski, DVM, MPH, DACVPM New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Zoonotic and Vectorborne Disease Unit
