The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

A new message was posted in the last few hours by the Jeddah-based al-Qaeda-linked Al-Islah (Reform) society calling on Muslims to flee New York, Washington and Los Angeles in advance of major al Qaeda attacks in those cities. This is revealed by DEBKAfile.

"I will never cower before any master nor bend to any threat."

Not to muddy up the forum, but I found this write up a little disturbing:

" The Green Zone is a little America embedded in the heart of Baghdad. It is the former preserve of Saddam Hussein and his favored associates—an uncrowded district of villas, palaces, and monuments set in a parklike expanse that spreads for four square miles inside a meander of the Tigris River at the center of the ruined city.

Hmmm. Considering what the green zone is, then looking at this post:

The snakes can be destroyed by the green. Not worth attack .Best to slaughter the American dogs in my homeland.

Could it mean, if we can destroy/cause major destruction in the Iraqi green zone would that "destroy the snakes" (American moral/Bush administration)
Not worth the attack here, best to destroy America in Iraq (his homeland?).

I also read in a post at the castle that the "dogs" are the Iraqi soldiers. Here: I am trying to find that post.

That, too, is a plausible explanation. I had not though along those lines. Young "unripe" jihadis willing to die for their "cause". But, does "green" have the same interpretation in their language/culture as ours, i.e. green = unripe?

Your interpretation is certainly a possibility.

Yes, I will read and give a synop. Just give me a few, but I did read through briefly and I believe it is a speech for martyrs.. etc. Perhaps maybe a suicide bomber in Iraq. Major speculation right now.

Thanks MamaD. I hope the captured U.S. troops story is false. It is also really disheartening that the muslim leaders are urging the Iraqis that are fighting alongside our troops to abandon the fight. From the headline I thought otherwise, until I read the article. Arggg.

Since our troups are mostly concentrated in a small area right now then the thought of the enemy using any kind of WMD could be devistating. This is worrisome to me.

Many times at SweetIslam they have referred to us - Americans - as snakes, like in a recent post that says "North America, land of criminals, serpents of the world". I agree with your idea that green equals inexperience and that the snakes (us) could be destroyed by the green meaning by the young or inexperienced.

Reading the passage:

The snakes can be destroyed by the green. Not worth attack. Best to slaughter the american dogs in my homeland. Dog lappers are nothing.

says to me that the Americans in the United States can be destroyed by even inexperienced fighters. It's a better tactic for them to slaughter the professional American soldiers in Iraq. Taking care of the lapdogs sitting at home will be easy.

This is my take, the first URL on the list talks about Allah, religion, etc.. There were about three references to martydom that I found.

The second one is talking about a martyr and Bristish soldiers. It also has the video of the car bomber.

The third one is talking about the picture that is there.

The last one is bugging me. Is it talking about a defector with the Marines? This is popping out at me. They also have pictures of identification and US credentials of a soldier. http://communicate.msn.com/Sweetislam/landsofislam.msnw?action=get_message&mview=0&ID_Message=5353&LastModified=4675496693793192979

It is the last URL in the list. What is your take?

It doesn't turn on that, but on whether the author knows the usage of green as unripe in English and whether Arabic applies its word for unripe (as in fruit) to human beings to mean inexperienced.

lahargis, do Arabic speakers use the Arabic word for 'unripe' to mean inexperienced?

lahargis suggests you might be able to help on this: do Arabic speakers use the same Arabic word to mean 'unripe' when applied to fruit and 'inexperienced' when applied to human beings?
