Yup, Senator Edwards speaks. SoreLoserman II begins tonight, but I'm not waiting!
Congratulations President Bush!!
It's all over but the crying for the SoreLosermen!!
And now it's time for us to start planning the Free Republic George W. Bush Inaugural Ball II!
I've had Kristinn checking venues and prices and we're in the process of getting a proposal from the Wyndham City Center Hotel in Washington, DC (the other Wyndham that we used last time is already booked).
The costs have more than doubled from our first ball, so we're estimating the price per person will have to be in the neighborhood of $175 per person. We'll also have to move fast on this. We'll need to make a quick decision as soon after the elections results are official as we possibly can and then we'll need to quickly raise the funds to put up the required deposit.
So, here's the question: Are you ready for an Inaugural Ball?
If so, please post here if you plan to attend and how many will be in your party.
Thank you all very much and hope to see you in DC on January 20th!!
By the way, everyone told us last time that the Free Republic Ball was the best one in town and it was half the price or less than all the others. I suspect that this Ball will also be the best in town and at $175 will still be priced less than any other!
Thanks for the info. What about transportation from there?
I stayed in Maryland in 2001 and actually had a hard time finding a cab in DC that would take me back out there ... of course ... I AM kinda scary looking (see profile!) especially to recent immigrants!
Put me down for 2 tickets, Theresa & Bill
If you want a nice place to stay...do not count on DC. I have a room in McLean at the Ritz Carlton. They have plenty of rooms but here is the deal... The price is $330 something before tax. If you have an Amex platinum and book thru Amex then you get the room with tax for $359. + you get $100 in food credit. Only good for room service lobby bar and steak house. Note this only for people with "The Card". Anyone wanting to make reservations without the Amex should contact me, and I will consider getting you a room, after your check clears my account LOL Seriously, this hotel is about 10 miles from the Ball and we will have a car. Parking there is $22.00 a day/valet or $5.00 a day self-park.
Are the hotels all requiring a three-night minimum, as is the rumor? If so, don't know if I can get that many days away from work. Otherwise, if any DC area freepers want to host the quiet, respectful, non-smoking, non-drinking Chapter Executive for Free Republic of Kentucky, let me know. Okay, maybe I am kidding.....maybe
We went to the inauguration last time, but the walking (must have done 15 miles that day) just put me out of commission.
Is the $100 credit per day? Thinking of staying close the 19th and 20th, then finding somewhere a little further out for less $$.
Have Amex will travel LOL!
Thanks for the info. I think I have found something acceptable.
Please add me to the list - i will come alone (I live in NYC - not too many of us here!)
Count me in for 2
Count me in Jim, I'll be there as well. I'm ready to unwind and enjoy the Presidents Victory.
The Days Inn Arlington on Arlington Blvd & RT 50 still has rooms priced 90.00 to $112.00. It is 2.7 miles from City and they have a complimentary shuttle which will take you to Metro a few blocks away. The will take a one nighter if you desire. Its very plain and dated but is clean. They have a very friendly staff. We stayed there for the last inauguration and it worked out well. Just remember it is very basic.

Any more details yet? We are so anxious to hear any more news and of course give you our credit cards. LOL
Please sign me up for 1 ticket.
Will need 2
2 tickets for me Jim. Thanks.
Thanks, 2 please.
Someone mentioned on this thread or maybe it was another a cheap airline. Does anyone recall its name.
Thanks.
Please add my name, if there is still room. I'll be by myself.
