The only thing my son's Red Rider has been hitting lately is the Dem. yard sign across the road.

I got a copy of the FREESTONE COUNTY TIMES (no website apparently) and there is an ad about a fundraiser for a game management association. The prizes are rod and reels, knives, a half-day guided fishing trip and GUNS. These prizes are for kids, BTW, and it was being held in a public High School....

I bet these people would have a cow if they this

And how does this compare with, say, skateboards? Or falling off horses? Or running with scissors? Or jay-walking?

Gun grabbers are a desperate group and the media plays along.

I'm wondering if this story is forshadowing BB guns shooting out the windows of GOP HQ on November 3rd?

Someone shot my Beagle about a month ago with a BB gun. She still has the BB near her spine. So they are more powerful than the old Red Riders we knew, but the hipe is totally uncalled for. Where is the parent responsibility? If I would have even thought of shooting a Beagle or a window or anything of value my dad would have whipped the thought out of me.

Here is the article from Drudge:
Study: BB Guns Injure Thousands Each Year
By LINDSEY TANNER
ASSOCIATED PRESS

CHICAGO (AP) - They are often thought of as toys, but BB guns and other nonpowder guns are sometimes lethal and injure as many as 21,000 Americans each year, according to a new report.

Nonpowder guns kill an average of four Americans yearly, and from 1990 to 2000, there were 39 such deaths - 32 of children younger than 15, according to the report in November's issue of Pediatrics.

The report, published Monday, comes just two weeks after the BB gun death of an 8-year-old South Carolina boy accidentally killed by a 13-year-old friend. The pellet pierced the boy's heart, said Richland County Coroner Gary Watts.

"These are not the kinds of BB guns that I grew up with," Watts said. Today's BB guns "are extremely high-powered," and some can shoot with a velocity nearly matching a .22 caliber rifle, Watts said.

These guns include powerful air rifles introduced in the 1970s and paintball pistols used in war games. They're sometimes described as fake guns and often given to children as gifts, but the report says they can cause internal injuries similar to those from bullets.

The gun involved in the Oct. 18 shooting was a present from the older boy's parents, who had hoped it would lift his spirits after his own brother's recent death in a car accident, Watts said.

"They're being given as toys without recognition that there may be a serious injury risk," said report author Dr. Danielle Laraque, a New York pediatrician.

Nationally, an estimated 21,840 injuries related to nonpowder guns were treated in emergency departments in 2000 - most in children aged 5 to 14, according to the report prepared by the American Academy of Pediatrics' Committee on Injury, Violence and Prevention.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data show there were 19,163 nonpowder gun injuries last year.

Most states have laws or regulations governing nonpowder guns. New York's is one of the strictest, prohibiting the purchase or unsupervised use by someone younger than 16 years, the Pediatrics report said.

While some models of air guns and BB guns are marketed specifically to youngsters, manufacturers and sellers also stress that they should be handled like legitimate firearms. Daisy Outdoor Products, a leading maker of BB guns and air rifles, lists safety instructions on its Web site and notes the risk of injury or death if the rules aren't followed.

"Sturgen Generals Warning: Don't run with scissors!"

This story needs a "DUH!" label. Anything used improperly can cause injury or even death. Even a bottle cap!

I am a female hunter. We have quite a variety of guns in our household. My daughter was shot by a boy with a BB gun from a few hundred yards away. The BB struck the pavement, entered her leg above the knee and lodged in the muscle of her thigh, four inches from the spot where it entered. The gun was tested and was so powerful that it was considered a deadly weapon. The state prosecuted this boy on charges of assault with a deadly weapon. BB guns are MUCH more powerful than they used to be. Parents need to know this.

My daughter got her Red Ryder when she was nine. She learned the basics of safe gun handling with it. She can now shoot it in the back yard whenever she wants. She is an excellent shot and has moved up to the .22.

Yes I am, and yes he was. Doesn't matter anymore.

In my book, great artists get forgiveness for silly politicial views, since the mental processes required to produce great art aren't necessarily the same as the ones required to make good political decisions.

[Alec Baldwin, Susuan Saranwrap, etc., do not qualify for this exemption, as there is no way in h*ll they can be considered great.]

Another horror of Bush allowing the AWB to expire. The streets are now flooded with full auto BB guns, some with bayonets.
