This looks like one of Rove's "genius" moves. Let's hope it doesn't back and bite him in the butt.

I'm trying not to panic....but don't know why they'd go to hawaii...if we had our base down, we don't need it.

ugh!! you're still in this state of mind... why not go to HAWAII if you can pick off four more from Kerry? what a kick in the pants that would be... you know Kerry never thought he'd have to ensure HAWAII... if anyone doesn't have his base down, it's him!

does anyone know where Cheney was scheduled to be before they decided to send him to HAWAII? maybe his schedule was open for just this sort of thing...

BUSH LANDSLIDE. Kerry & Company rushed the NYT/CBS hit piece because I bet you Kerry's internal poll numbers are bad. Well, IMHO that hit piece backfired. Now, we could see a rout.

I don't think Kerry's daughter will have any pull in Hawaii but I think the VP of the United States will take well there.

why they would even bother with Hawaii if they didn't think they might need it to win.

No... that's not the point. Nobody ever has bothered to campaign there because it's always been a solid dem vote. The dems haven't ever campaigned there because they haven't needed to do so to win it, and the Repubs haven't campaigned there because there would be no point in it.

That Hawaii might be up for grabs is a huge unreported story. The current polling there suggests that the state will break for Bush, or at the very least is very close, and this would be huge. Sending Cheney there is a good move, and could be a heavy factor in keeping the lead there.

I don't think CNN is right(not surprised).I wouldn't listen to them. I heard Ken Melman(sp?)on the Hugh Hewitt Show this afternoon and he was talking about the internals of the Bush/Cheney Campaign. He said something to the effect that within the last couple of days, there has been a dramatic(word?)increase of voters for Bush. I think it's because of the ammunitions "story." Again, like I said, I wouldn't believe CNN is right.

This is why HI matters this time....if the polls are as close as they say (probably they won't be this close, but who knows), even 4 electoral votes could swing it either to Kerry or Bush.

http://msnbc.msn.com/id/6028629/?ta=y

Played around with this (go to electoral map and click the pick 'em tab at the top of the map).

Bush could lose Oregon, MN, IA, MI, Ohio, Pa, and ME and still win if he gets Florida, WI, NM, AZ (which went for him in 2000 so should again), MO, WV and either HI or NH.

Without at least HI or NH, Kerry would get a bare electoral win.

On the other hand, Kerry can't win even if he wins all MW states ***excluding Ohio***, HI, NM, and NH. A Kerry win is virtually impossible without Ohio and PA both, provided FL stays Bush and reports indicate it is more for Bush than OH is.

(Though Dems seem rather excited about their poll turnout, which is a bit scary).

All I can say, is Rove and Bush better know what they are doing. And have a lot better information that we are seeing or is being leaked. Too late in the campaign to be bluffing. Why take a day to goto HI? If Bush is in trouble, then I would think there would be other swing/close states more attainable. And they'd spend their time there. If they are winning big, why bother? My guess is that HI is part of an "insurance strategy" in case they loose OH. They are trying to cobble enough other leaners (WI, IA, NM, and HI) together to make up for OH.

I may be wrong. But if HI goes Bush, then he is probably going to win 45-46 states. Maybe Bush and Rove know they have the election won. Maybe this is their "mandate" strategy. Win 45+ states, and it will be hard for the dems to say they stole the election, and Bush was nominated by the USSC. Also, they may be looking to build for the future 2008 candidate whoever that may be. Hopefully by Nov 3rd, we'll know. All I can say, is Bush and Rove are campaigning and acting as if they are 99% sure of victory. And that it won't be close.

I attended a Cheney town meeting in Sioux City, Iowa this afternoon. Bush is in town Monday. Cheney's been here twice now, Bush will be here twice. Laura's been here.

This is as Republican an area as you'll find. The strategy is obviously to turn out the base. Minds aren't going to be changed at this point.

Bad news for Kerry for the GOP to be campaigning in Hawaii.

I think New Mexico and Nevada are wrapped up.Then they don't need to spend 18 hours on surge weekend sending DC to Hawaii unless they are looking to grow the Republican party in HI for the future.

Spend every spare moment in FL/OH.

I truley hope your correct...they're doing this to stick a dagger into the bastar*s.

I also heard Tony Snow say today, that within the last 48 hours, there has been a big break of voters towards Bush. Somewhere in the 2-1 range. He wasn't clear if this was all voters, leaning Bush, or undecideds. All these rumors we have heard for the last few weeks, have said Bush/Rove are expecting a late surge towards Bush. Now that could just be hoping on their part. But I don't think I have heard the Kerry campaign saying this.
