First National Pitch In Step with History
A lot of history got behind President Bush as he opened the Nationals first home game.
The ceremonial first pitch came 95 years to the day that President William Howard Taft attended a Senators' game and started the tradition.
President Bush followed Taft's example by tossing out the ball to end D.C.'s long baseball drought.
A frenzy of camera flashes, a lot of cheers and some boos greeted the president when he emerged from the dugout in a red Nationals jacket. He threw a high pitch toward home plate that was neatly snagged by Nationals catcher Brian Schneider.
Even the ball he used had historical significance.
Joe Grzenda, who was the last pitcher in the Senators' final home game in 1971, provided the ball he used in that final game.

Do you really?! I'll bet they must be hilarious!! I stopped reading OPUSes 4- 5 years ago, unless I am in it fer the pure hilarity factor. Don't these good folks realize that they are no big shakes? They are but pawns in the bigger scheme of things over on TOS, and when they leave to make some grand point, they simply fade away and most of their work at TOS is lost to posterity. That's too bad, but nothing to lose sleep over.
OPUSes are a RIOT...I'd love it if some of the EX-FReepers could link us to their grand exiting OPUS at FR.com...I'm sure we will all fall outta our chairs laughing!! Of course, when BADJOE left, his OPUS filled me with a sense of angry righteous indignation, but most OPUSes are simply self-important folks lambasting the FR.com PowersThatBe fer not realizing the brilliance that was in their midst until it was too late. My response to every OPUS is the same..."Arivederci!! Sayonara!! Hasta luego, BABY!! Don't let the door hit you on the butt as you exit the premises!!" To me, surrendering yer post at FR.com--or LP.org, fer that metter--is a cop-out and a moral failing.
But I had to learn this lesson directly from JimRob hisowndamself!! I never posted a public OPUS, but I wrote 2-3 and was ready to send them, but in retrospect, I'm glad I did not...LOL!! No, instead of public OPUSes, I'd spend hours putting together a moving private OPUS to JimRob. To paraphrase..."Dammit, all the hard work I put into making FR.com a growing vibrant entity, and I get treated like THIS?! This is how we can better this place immeasurably...Blah blah blah blah..."...it went on from there...LOL!!
More than once, JimRob's only response to my well-conconcted case fer change within FR.com was one word..."LEAVE!!"...LOL!! Often, JimRob'd add in a sentence of two explaining "I never liked you anyway" or somesuch, but the most common FReepMails I ever get from JimRob were "Leave" or "Knock It OFF!!"
I came to understand exactly what those two statements meant...
BTW...maybe we'll learn something from reading these OPUSes, and you know the OPUS writers still have links to their OPUS that they could share with us fer the betterment of Conservatism...maybe all the folks who wrote OPUSes and fled TOS fer greener pastures left us with some nuggets of wisdom we can use at LP.org or whatever WebForum replaces LP.org as the second-best Conservative WebForum on the planet. Lord knows, there are a lotta things I'd change over at TOS if I was in charge, but as JimRob's made perfectly clear to me on multiple occasions, if you don't like it, you can always Leave!!"
